Los Angeles Legendary Sleuth

Chapter 1373 - 638: Motive

Otway Film Company is located in a three-story office building in the suburbs.

When Luke and his partner drove up, Otway Stone was already waiting downstairs.

He looked at Luke getting out of the car, and with a complicated expression said, "Captain Li, I didn't expect us to meet so soon." He glanced around and lowered his voice, "I thought I had already made things clear.

In fact, I've told you everything I know."

Luke said, "Mr. Otway Stone, please don't be nervous.

Our main purpose here is not about you."

"Okay, let's talk in my office." Otway Stone's tone noticeably relaxed, and he led Luke and his partner into the building.

The office building was grandly constructed, with several old posters hanging on the first floor, likely from movies previously shot by Otway Film Company.

But Luke hadn't seen any of these movies.

This is quite normal; America produces hundreds of films each year, and only a dozen or so become hits and are remembered.

Otway Stone's office is on the third floor, and along the way, they met several movie company employees who seemed a bit distant when greeting Otway Stone.

Otway Stone complained, "I haven't been to the company for too long. I really need to get these slackers back in line.

A good film company is all about creativity and execution, and I don't see any of that in them anymore."

After entering the office, Otway Stone closed the door and invited Luke and his partner to sit, "Would you like something to drink?"

"No, thank you.

We just want to have a chat with you."

"Okay, what do you want to talk about?

If you still suspect me as the culprit, I'd advise you not to waste your time.

As I said before, I have nothing to do with Gallian Coffey's case."

Luke said, "While investigating the Gallian Coffey murder case, we found that Gallian's father was also murdered thirty-nine years ago. Both were killed while serving as chairman of the Coffey Group, so we want to learn about the Coffey family's history to see if the two cases are connected."

"The Coffey family history?" Otway Stone frowned slightly.

"That's right."

"Then you've got the wrong person. I only knew Gallian a few years ago and have no understanding of his family's history. Why not ask Gallian's wife?"

Luke asked, "I have a question. If you don't understand the Coffey family history, how can you make a documentary about it?"

Otway Stone smiled, "I see." Otway Stone picked up the phone on the desk and said, "Jessica, bring the materials for the Coffey family documentary to my office, and be quick about it."

After hanging up the phone, Otway Stone said to Luke, "Captain Li, this is all I can do to help you."

"Thank you very much." Luke said politely, "When do you plan to start filming the documentary?"

"Three days from now, I'll be holding a commencement ceremony here."

"So soon?"

"A documentary is not difficult for me. Oh, by the way, you can look at those materials on the Coffey family, but you can't take them away.

We'll need them for the filming too."

"Understood."

Otway Stone lowered his voice, "And don't mention it to anyone else."

"Of course."

"Knock, knock..."

After a while, there was a knock at the door.

"Come in."

A short-haired Black woman walked into the office and placed a stack of documents on the desk, "Mr. Otway Stone, here are the materials you asked for."

"Is everything here?"

"Yes.

It took us three months to prepare these materials."

Otway Stone smirked, "By the way, prepare the invitations for the commencement ceremony, set for three days from now."

Jessica looked surprised, "Isn't that a bit rushed? The casting for the documentary hasn't even been decided."

Otway Stone shook his head, "That's not your concern. Just do your job."

Jessica shrugged, "Got it. Anything else?"

"Close the door."

Jessica left the office, closing the door behind her.

Otway Stone waved his hand in dissatisfaction, "I've been away too long; these people have forgotten my way of doing things.

We need to get used to each other again." Otway Stone tapped the stack of documents in front of him, "Gentlemen, this is the Coffey family information you wanted. I hope it helps."

"Does this include the documentary script?"

"Yes, the one on top is the initial script. I looked at it this morning, and it's pretty mediocre; there will be revisions later.

Even though I'm not too hopeful about this documentary, the work still needs to be done."

Luke nodded, "Mr. Stone, reviewing the materials here might disturb your work. Could we use another office?"

"Any specific requirements?"

"Just somewhere we won't be disturbed."

Otway Stone thought for a moment, "The lounge next door is vacant. You can go there to go through the materials, and you can call me if you need anything."

"Thank you." Luke and Little Black took the materials to the lounge next door.

Entering the lounge, Little Black placed the stack of documents on the table, "This guy doesn't seem professional at all, it's like he's rushing the project. Looks like the Coffey family documentary is headed for disaster."

Luke said, "Don't worry about him; let's focus on our own work."

Little Black picked up the script from the top of the stack, "Should we start with this?"

Luke hesitated, "No, reading the script first might lead to preconceived notions.

It's better to start with the data."
