Chapter 1329 - 606: Night Investigation
Near Markos Bar.
A black business van was parked not far from the parking lot.
From a distance, the van was completely dark, indicating that it was turned off.
However, if you looked closely from the front of the vehicle, you could occasionally see silhouettes inside.
Luke, Michael, Amir, and Louise were sitting inside discussing the case.
Luke asked Michael, "How did your talk with Blood Hand Mac go?"
Michael snorted, "This guy is sneakier than I imagined. He admitted that someone has been in contact with him since he was imprisoned, and there are dozens of people contacting him.
I pressed him on who could possibly commit the crime, and he gave me ten names."
Amir twirled his pen, "If everyone's a suspect, then it's like saying nothing."
Luke asked, "Does that include suspect Tangji Bruns?"
"Yes, it does," Michael responded, continuing, "I'm planning to thoroughly check the communication list to see if anyone matches the profile of the killer."
Louise interrupted their conversation, "The forensic doctor just sent over the latest autopsy results.
The time of death was between 11:30 PM last night and 1:30 AM today, caused by asphyxiation from strangling. The legs were cut off with a tool like a chainsaw after death, and the victim had been heavily drinking before dying."
Amir asked, "Was the victim assaulted before death?"
Louise replied, "No signs of assault were found."
Michael said, "The victim's house wasn't burglarized, and there was no assault, so what was the motive for the murder?"
Amir responded, "My guess is that the killer saw the victim drunk and intended to take advantage, which then led to a wicked thought.
But after accidentally committing murder, the killer was scared, so there was no further assault or theft..."
Amir trailed off and then contradicted himself, "No, that's not right. The killer dared to saw off the victim's legs, which shows he's quite bold, so that explanation doesn't make sense..."
"Let's not overthink it. Since the suspect has been frequenting the bar area at night, let's focus on finding him first." Luke interrupted Amir's train of thought, suggesting that speculation should be based on evidence, and if evidence is insufficient or flawed, the conclusions could be skewed.
Louise said, "If the person who took the victim home last night was the killer, I doubt he would return here now."
Amir shook his head, "True high-intelligence criminals usually don't change their daily routine before or after committing a crime. They pretend as if nothing happened, whereas those who flee after committing a crime are more likely to attract police attention.
Moreover, the daring act of sawing off the victim's legs suggests a reckless person, so there's a high chance he'll return to the scene."
Louise shrugged, "Hope you're right."
Amir said confidently, "I always am."
Michael checked his watch and instructed, "Amir, Louise, you two stay in the car to monitor the parking lot surveillance, while Luke and I will go down to check things out."
Amir said, "Keep in touch."
Luke and Michael got out of the van.
After scanning the surroundings, Michael asked in a low voice, "Do you think the killer will strike again?"
Luke answered, "Since the killer is imitating Blood Hand Mac's MO and has left the same Blood Stain Symbol at the scene, it's clear he has adopted Blood Hand Mac's killing ideology. I think he will strike again.
And the time interval won't be long."
Michael sighed, "The first victim was the mayor of New York's wife; the second was an international model.
Both cases have caused a huge sensation. I really shudder to think of what the identity of the third victim might be?"
Luke patted him on the shoulder, "Relax, buddy, we'll catch him."
"Zz-Zz..."
Louise's voice crackled over the walkie-talkie, "Heads up, a man in a yellow ride-share driver uniform is walking towards the parking lot."
"Received." Luke and Michael looked towards the parking lot entrance, and soon after, a man in a yellow ride-share driver uniform entered the parking lot.
Luke approached, taking the opportunity to observe the man's appearance and body type, which didn't match the suspect's profile from last night.
He took out his walkie-talkie, "Not the target."
Besides Luke and his team, many agents were also arranged around the bar, searching for any trace of the suspect.
A few minutes later, another agent's voice came through the walkie-talkie, "We've got him, we've got him."
Michael took out the walkie-talkie, asking, "Can you confirm his identity?"
"His appearance and build match the video footage, we can basically confirm it."
"Great, bring him over," Michael said, a touch of satisfaction in his voice, and he turned to Luke, adding, "We caught that bastard."
A few minutes later, a white man in a yellow ride-share driver uniform was escorted into the van. The man was short, slender, and had a thick beard. He looked at Luke and the others with displeasure, loudly demanding, "Why did you arrest me?"
"FBI! We're investigating a major criminal case.
What's your name?"
"Gor Nolan."
"Do you know why we're looking for you?"
"I don't know, but you must have the wrong person. I've never done anything illegal."
"Where were you at 11 PM last night?"
"I was near the bar."
