Chapter 1289 - 568: Gathering (Part 3)
"I'll take good care of it." Linda, who has her own house in Los Angeles, naturally wouldn't move in with her son, but this key still held significant meaning for her.
Linda looked around, "Where's your grandpa? I clearly saw his car."
Just as Luke was about to say something, a black F150 Raptor drove in and stopped at the garage door.
The driver's door opened, and Robert stepped down from the cabin, "This car's performance is great, perfect for outdoor off-roading. The interior is nice and comfortable.
Can I borrow it for camping in the future?"
"Of course."
Val also jumped down from the passenger seat, patting the tall vehicle body, "I like this big guy. It's rugged on the outside, comfortable inside, and powerful. Next time we go camping, I can be your driver."
Luke teased, "As long as you're not drunk."
Linda was a little surprised, "Is this the new car you bought?"
"Yes."
Linda looked towards the garage, "Where's your Mercedes G500?"
"It had some accidents, so I sold it." Luke brushed off the question and invited everyone for dinner.
Tonight's focus was on barbecue, once again with Robert in charge of grilling. He was full of praise for Luke's newly purchased grill.
Seeing how much he liked it, Luke thought about gifting him the same grill for his birthday.
The dinner officially began, with everyone eating barbecue, drinking, and chatting.
Luke's yard was large, so there was no worry about disturbing the neighbors.
Val got tipsy and even performed a new song of his. Compared to his previous songs, this one was much more 'low-key' and normal.
Luke guessed it was likely because his work and life were getting on track.
Judging from Robert and Linda's attitude towards him, it was a good thing. Otherwise, he wouldn't have had the chance to sing his own song at the gathering.
At nine o'clock, the party ended.
Robert was very happy today, drinking quite a bit and getting somewhat drunk.
Val drove him home first.
Just as everyone watched Val's car leave, a black SUV drove up and stopped at the Luke family's door.
"My dad's here to pick me up." Maggie ran over cheerfully.
Luke said to the chubby guy beside him, "I thought you were going to take Maggie home."
"I would, but I don't have a driver's license yet, nor a car." The chubby guy looked at Luke with a pleading expression after finishing the sentence.
"Save that damn look for your dad." Luke flicked his forehead lightly. The chubby guy had grown a lot this past year, almost catching up to him in height. Next year, he could get a driver's license and buy a car. Luke didn't want to be the fool, at least he wouldn't take the big hit.
Maggie's father got out of the car, a tall white man who looked around forty, with rugged features, wearing a shirt and jeans, "Captain Lee, I often see you on TV.
Thank you for hosting my daughter."
Luke shook hands with him, "Mr. Karen, you should've come earlier so we could have a drink together."
"Next time, there'll be another chance." Maggie's father patted his daughter's head, "Sweetie, say goodbye to everyone. You should go home and sleep."
"Luke, Linda, thank you for your hospitality.
Jack, see you tomorrow." Maggie waved goodbye to everyone, got in the car, and left with her father.
Watching the car leave, Luke rubbed his nose and asked, "What does Maggie's father do?"
"Elevator repairman." Jack responded, shrugging, "Why?"
"Nothing."
Luke smelled a hint of disinfectant on Maggie's father, a scent he was particularly sensitive to.
