Chapter 1274 - 562: Visit
The next morning.
Robbery and Murder Department office.
Luke entered the office in high spirits, seemingly unaffected by last night's shooting.
He poured himself a cup of coffee and then called a meeting with the team.
"Deputy, any progress on last night's shooting?"
"The injured driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The two gunmen in the Ford car are dead, so we can only focus the investigation on their identities." The deputy pulled out a file and read, "The driver last night was named Ricardo Solu, and the two gunmen were named Gode Simon and Glenn Rous.
All three have criminal records, with Ricardo Solu and Gode Simon having charges of assault, and Glenn Rous for illegal detention.
Since the driver Ricardo Solu is still in the hospital, we couldn't take his statement last night.
Once his condition allows, I believe we can get some valuable leads from him."
"Any leads on the Ford car?"
The deputy shrugged, "The owner is Gode Simon, the poor guy whose head you blew off."
Luke paused for a moment, "Jenny, contact the hospital and find out when we can take Ricardo Solu's statement."
"Got it, Captain."
Luke turned a page in his notebook, "Any progress on the arson case and on Thomas Colley's investigation?"
Jackson replied, "I found the address of Thomas Colley's wife and daughter, no, to be precise, his ex-wife.
They divorced last year, and their daughter's custody was given to Thomas Colley's ex-wife.
Legally, they're no longer a family."
Luke said, "Whether Thomas Colley and his ex-wife are a family, I don't know, but his daughter's identity won't change.
Get ready, in ten minutes, let's visit Thomas Colley's daughter."
"Understood, Captain."
...
Stewart Community.
This is a middle-class white community, with the neatly manicured lawns as standard, and the overall security and environment of the neighborhood are good, with house prices being higher than those in other ethnic neighborhoods.
Jackson glanced at the greenery around the street, "This community is much better than the one where suspect Thomas Colley lives."
Luke said, "Maybe that's why Thomas Colley can be at ease getting caught, as long as his ex-wife and daughter are doing well, he has no worries."
"How old is his daughter?"
"She should be seventeen this year."
While talking, Jackson parked the car by the side of the road, with a white two-story villa on the right and a white Lexus parked outside the garage.
After getting out of the car, Jackson walked ahead to ring the doorbell, while Luke stayed a step back, observing the surroundings.
"Ding dong..."
Jackson pressed the doorbell.
After a while, the video doorbell activated, "This is Georgina Colley's home, what do you want?"
"We're looking for Erin Colley."
"Who are you? Why do you want to see my daughter?"
Jackson showed his badge, "LAPD, please open the door."
Footsteps were heard, and the door opened, revealing a white woman standing with her arms crossed, "I'm Erin Colley's mother, what do you want with her?"
Jackson asked, "Is her father's name Thomas Colley?"
"Yes."
"We'd like to know more about Thomas Colley."
"What happened to Thomas Colley?"
Jackson suggested, "Ms. Colley, can we discuss this inside?"
Georgina Colley nodded and stepped aside, "Come in."
She led Luke and Jackson into the living room and asked, "You want to know about Thomas Colley, why not go directly to him?"
Thomas Colley said, "We've talked to Thomas Colley more than once, but he's not a very honest person."
Georgina Colley frowned slightly, "What did he do that's illegal?"
"Murder, arson, kidnapping." Luke watched Georgina Colley's face, noticing her expression change with each word he said.
"Are you sure?" Georgina Colley looked shocked, "In my memory, Thomas Colley, though a bit irritable, emotional, and mentally depressed, was not a bad man.
How could he commit so many crimes?"
"Have you seen him recently?"
"No, we've been divorced for a year, and I'm even considering going back to my previous surname. If you come here next month, I might not be Ms. Colley anymore."
Luke chuckled, "Are you implying that you're no longer connected to Thomas Colley?"
"It's not an implication; it's a fact."
Jackson said, "We're investigating Thomas Colley's financial situation. Is he still paying you alimony and child support?"
"My daughter is not yet eighteen, so he should pay child support.
As for the alimony, I refused it six months ago.
I'm already grateful that he didn't ask me to pay child support." Georgina Colley's tone carried a hint of pride.
Jackson asked, "What happened six months ago that made you refuse his alimony?"
"Six months ago, I was promoted to executive assistant, and my salary increased substantially. I now earn much more than Thomas Colley.
If he applies to the court, I might have to pay him alimony.
