Chapter 1199 - 525: Heart-to-Heart
The girl with glasses said, "I don't think there's any problem. The island's dense vegetation means that even if we land, we can only see a limited area, nowhere near as efficient as a drone's aerial view. Plus, the videos of the islands have been saved and can be studied anytime."
Elsa Marin said, "Drones are indeed convenient, but they can't completely replace humans. Landing on the island is still the most reliable way to explore.
Our problem with treasure hunting is not being too slow, but being too fast."
The girl with glasses shrugged, "Technology exists to improve human efficiency.
If we have to explore every island, today's itinerary would take ten days or even half a month to complete.
And I only took a week off from school."
Elsa Marin said, "Patience is the most important thing in treasure hunting. Being thorough is better than missing the treasure..."
Luke wasn't very interested in their argument, thinking neither of them was getting to the point. After finishing his meal, he got up and left.
After a sleepless night, he was a little tired and needed to get to bed early tonight.
"Knock, knock..."
Just as Luke returned to his room, there was a knock on the door.
Luke yawned, "Come in."
With a creak, the door opened.
Lilith walked into the room, holding a bottle of red wine, "Would you like a glass before bed?"
Luke took the glass and asked, "What do you want to talk to me about?"
"I want to chat." Lilith clinked her glass against Luke's.
"Cheers!"
Luke took a sip, savoring the taste, "The wine's not bad."
Lilith sat on the chair and said, "You have successful treasure hunting experience. I'd like to hear your thoughts?"
Luke asked back, "Do you have any other clues about the treasure?"
Lilith hesitated for a moment, "Yes."
"You've withheld some key clues about the treasure, and without the missing information, it's hard for me to give you the right advice."
Lilith sensed the dissatisfaction in Luke's tone and hurried to explain, "I wasn't hiding it; I just didn't think it necessary to bring it up in Los Angeles.
I planned to tell you when we reached the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Who would've thought that there'd be intruders on the yacht last night, which unnerved me and delayed this matter."
Lilith stood up, "Come with me, I'll show you something."
Luke took his glass of wine and followed Lilith into her bedroom.
Lilith opened the wardrobe and took out two sheets of yellow leather from the safe. One was a map Luke had seen before of the area around the U.S. Virgin Islands, marking the general scope of the treasure island.
Lilith handed the other piece of yellow leather to Luke.
This was also a topographic map, but more precise, depicting a single island shaped somewhat like a turtle, with various areas such as vegetation and fresh water marked on it.
"Did you determine the islands explored by the drone weren't the treasure islands based on this map?"
"Yes, these two maps are paired. One marks the area's islands, and the other shows the island's topography.
Now, I've told you all about the treasure.
And I've only told you alone." Lilith blinked her blue eyes, looking sincere as she asked, "Can you give me some advice?"
Luke didn't answer immediately and carefully examined the two treasure maps, slowly saying, "What do you think yourself?"
"According to my plan, the treasure island should be within the range we traveled today. Logically, with the island's topographic map, it should be found." Lilith sighed lightly, "I'm a bit confused now, not sure where we've gone wrong.
I need your help."
Luke sipped his red wine, "Actually, both the girl with glasses and Elsa Marin are right.
The drones have greatly improved the efficiency of searching for the treasure island.
Elsa Marin is also correct; according to the map marking the treasure islands, we've already searched most of the area in today's journey and may even have missed the real treasure island."
Lilith said, "We did check out many islands today, but many don't meet the treasure island's conditions, so I ruled them out right away.
A dozen or so similar islands were scouted with the drone.
But they don't match the treasure island's topography.
Did I do something wrong?"
Luke shook his head, "No."
Lilith pressed, "Did I miss something?"
Luke was silent for a moment, then said, "Yes, you did miss something."
Lilith asked curiously, "What did I miss?"
"Time.
Time can change many things.
A map is static, but the sea is not, nor is the climate. Plus, human factors might cause ecological imbalance, possibly altering the island's topography."
Lilith's eyes lit up, suddenly understanding, "You're right, that indeed should be considered." Her eyebrows relaxed, and a smile spread across her lovely face, "Since you've spotted the problem, you should have thought of a solution."
"I do have a way, but I don't want to tell you."
"Come on, don't be so stingy.
Withholding the treasure clues was my oversight, and I apologize to you.
I swear to God, anything about the treasure from now on, I won't hide a thing from you." Lilith put on a pitiful look, "Please."
