Chapter 1178 - 517: Immune Body
Since March 28th, there have been four consecutive terrorist attack incidents: the news TV station bombing, the city government bombing, the Steven Community College biochemical virus attack, and today's bar biochemical virus attack.
The four terrorist attacks mainly involve three people.
The first, retired veteran Tapani Reagan.
The second, Middle Eastern man Hard Abbas.
The third, biochemical expert Severo Joli.
I've carefully reviewed the information about these three. Although they collaborated on the terrorist attacks, they might not be on the same page.
First, the Middle Eastern man Hard Abbas, backed by Middle Eastern forces; those in his apartment are his accomplices. His real purpose might be to rescue the terrorist leader L338.
But retired veteran Tapani Reagan and biochemical expert Severo Joli are Americans. These two and the Middle Eastern might not share the same intent and probably have other purposes.
From what I know about retired veteran Tapani Reagan, he was betrayed by his wife during his service, and after returning home, he didn't receive the respect he deserved, showing a tendency to take revenge on society. This may be his motive for participating in the terrorist attacks.
As for biochemical expert Severo Joli, I think he's more likely using Tapani Reagan and Hard Abbas to cover up his true purpose of the terror attack: to find someone immune to the Yagola Virus."
Armand Hains asked in confusion, "Why would he do that?"
Luke recalled, "That day, during the interrogation of Hard Abbas, I asked him about Severo Joli's physical traits. According to him, Severo Joli's skin was somewhat red, and his veins were darker in color, resembling someone afflicted with the Yagola Syndrome.
I suspect he might have this syndrome, but due to the lack of a specific cure, he might adopt this method to seek a glimmer of hope.
Either find an immune body to create a specific cure himself or push the American government to research the Yagola Syndrome."
Armand Hains spread his hands, "This speculation is too crazy.
According to the CDC director, the probability of being immune to the Yagola Virus is one in a thousand. Wouldn't that mean he'd have to cause dozens more terrorist attacks, killing thousands to find an immune body?"
"No, that's just probability. With bad luck, you might not find one in ten thousand. With good luck, there might be one immune body in a hundred." Luke continued, "I think today's terrorist attack may already have it."
Lynn Brouss listened intently. Although Luke's words were just speculation, the possibility was significant. She analyzed, "From what we've learned, Severo Joli hasn't exposed himself. He seems cautious. Even if we leak information about a virus-immune survivor, he might not believe it."
Luke said, "Based on Severo Joli's records, he returned to America in 2020 and resigned soon after, then went off the radar.
Which indicates he was already ill at that time.
The illness progresses to death in about three to four years, meaning he doesn't have much time left.
He's waited so long that his patience is nearly exhausted. He likely won't miss this opportunity.
Can he afford to wait for another chance if he misses this one?"
Lynn Brouss clasped her hands and thought for a while, looking at Armand Hains beside her, "Armand, you've worked hard these past few days."
Armand Hains was a bit stunned, shrugging, "I'm okay."
"I mean you should take a rest."
Armand Hains spread his hands, "But the scene hasn't been fully examined yet…"
Lynn Brouss waved her hand, "Lie down."
"What?" Armand Hains widened his eyes, pointing at the floor, "Lie down here?"
"Exactly. From now on, you're the lucky immune body, then you'll be put on a stretcher into an ambulance, to the hospital for 'treatment' or 'rest,' just consider it a break for you.
No need to be polite."
Armand Hains "…"
Thanks, indeed.
After leaving the bar, Luke dialed Nami Inoue's number, "Hey, beauty, want to grab breakfast together?"
Two hours later.
Luke drove to Nami Inoue's house, flashing the car lights at the window.
A few minutes later.
The door of Nami Inoue's house opened. Wearing a black long dress and a khaki coat, she walked out, yawning, "Four in the morning in Los Angeles is really annoying."
She opened the car door and sat in the passenger seat, "Captain Li, don't you sleep at night?"
"Of course I sleep, but terrorists might not."
Nami Inoue suddenly perked up, "Another terrorist attack?"
"Yes. Are you interested in this news?"
"Of course." Nami Inoue quickly took out her phone to browse, "When did the terrorist attack happen? I haven't received any news."
"The exact time was around one in the morning. The attacked location was a bar, and the FBI temporarily blocked the news.
You might become the first reporter to cover this news."
Nami Inoue initially got excited but then calmed down, "Did you come here just to tell me this news?"
"Yes."
Although Nami Inoue was an intern journalist, she wasn't dumb, "Shouldn't you be investigating the terrorist incident at this time?"
She didn't think she was important enough for Luke to come personally.
"I want you to report this news."
"Why? Any conditions?"
Luke stared at her, "Can I trust you?"
Nami Inoue shrugged, "I thought we had come to an understanding last night?"
"This is our first cooperation, and it's an experiment. I'll tell you my request.
If you agree, we cooperate. If you feel uncomfortable, there's still time to back out."
"Is there anything wrong with the news itself?"
Luke flashed a Detection Card over her, finding no monitoring devices, and continued, "The news is partly true and partly false. I hope, regardless of the truth, you report it as I ask."
"Why do this?"
"I can only tell you it's needed for the case."
"So, my news reports, to some extent, can help you solve the case."
"You could say that."
"This would be our true cooperation mode. You need me to report news that aids in investigations, but this news might not be real."
"Yes, you can still back out if you want."
Nami Inoue didn't hesitate for long, "No, I find it exciting. If my news reports can assist in solving a case, that's a good thing, why not?"
Luke said seriously, "Listen, our cooperation is simple. I'll tip you off about some news with certain conditions, if you accept, report it.
If you can't accept, refuse, but under no circumstances reveal our conversation to a third party, can you do it?"
To avoid unnecessary trouble in the future, some things had to be made clear.
"No problem." Hearing Luke laying it clear, Nami Inoue felt more grounded.
Last night, Luke had proposed cooperation. Though they agreed on an initial cooperation, she hadn't felt entirely secure, given their unequal status.
Only now did she fully understand Luke's true intention.
She realized Luke was using her, but it was within a range she could accept.
Many believe journalists should stick to their principles, report facts, and chase truth.
These are pursuits and guidelines of many famous journalists.
But Nami Inoue was just an intern. Her current goal was to establish herself in the news industry with a certain notoriety and influence.
Maybe she'll chase truth and report facts like those famous journalists in the future, but… not now...
A hungry person doesn't have the luxury to be picky.
Luke kept assessing her.
She sensed that if she hesitated even a little, Luke would find someone else to replace her.
