I felt the crunch of snow being compressed under my feet. There was no sound. My breath spread in a blue haze.
Dawn in the snow-covered north had a slightly different color than elsewhere, and the world was tinged with the hue of daybreak.
The horizon at the edge of the distant sky slowly began to brighten. In a place filled with blue light, the rising sun appeared as the only color.
I hid in the undergrowth beneath a tree and surveyed my surroundings. There was no one nearby.
A bird perched on a branch, seemingly just noticing my presence, tried to take flight with a flutter.
I pinned the bird to the ground using winds.
‘No need to draw any attention, even a little.’
I observed the forward base. Smoke rose here and there as the approaching morning was greeted.
It was a signal that breakfast was being prepared.
