Liu Tinglan, unwilling as she was, could not insist on keeping her there any longer and thus asked many questions about Cui Qingrou. Seeing that there were no traces of dissatisfaction with her stepmother in Mo Yan’s written words, Liu Tinglan knew that Mo Yan was very pleased with her stepmother and intended to get along well with her. With this reassurance, she felt at ease.
Given that Mo Yan had come from afar and held another identity as a distinguished guest of the Shen family, the Elderly Couple of Shen Family did not dare to neglect her. "Sister, isn’t this number of banquet tables a bit too much? I think forty tables would be more than enough," Xin Er said, looking at the fifty tables listed on the roster, thinking her sister had made a mistake.
Mo Yan, busy writing something on paper, replied without lifting her head, "I can’t be sure exactly how many people will come on the day, but fifty tables is not a lot, I’m actually worried it might not be enough!"
The Mo family had held several large banquets before and could be said to have rich experience; however, this time was quite different from the past. Previously, the guests had all been friendly families, mostly villagers. This time, in addition to these people, there were also ministers from the court.
In the more than a year since Mo Qingze had taken office, he had not only earned Chu Heng’s trust but, being a son-in-law of the Cui family, the guests invited were just a few friendly officials. Nevertheless, it was possible that some people, in hopes of gaining favor from Chu Heng and the Cui family, would come uninvited. Therefore, a few banquet tables had to be reserved. It would be rude if people came to offer congratulations but had no place to sit.
Having heard this explanation, Xin Er suddenly understood, "Indeed, we need to reserve some. Mao Tuan and the others are going to be tired. So many banquets will require a lot of fresh game!"
