Although the Six Beasts had a "legal" identity, able to go anywhere unimpeded with their Beast Badges, their appearance before people would inevitably cause panic and attract attention. Mo Yan had intended for them to stay in the Space until nightfall before letting them out, then claim they had sneaked onto the estate under the cover of darkness. However, these creatures, perhaps tired of staying in Liu Yang Village, wanted to see the scenery along the way and refused to "smuggle" themselves over as Mo Yan suggested.
There were only a limited number of Mo Family carriages, and even if there had been enough, it would have been slightly better for slightly smaller ones like Dabai, Little Flower, and Mao Tuan, as the carriage could barely contain them. The Red Python Gold Beast and the Black Cloud Leopard, being taller and longer than the carriages when standing, could not be accommodated at all. Moreover, they were not willing to subject themselves to the discomfort of being cooped up in a carriage and cheerfully decided to follow alongside. As for Mo Yan’s suggestion to sneak over at night, it was outright ignored by them.
The Six Beasts often entered and exited Yuhua Mountain and routinely encountered villagers going in and out of the mountain. They had never harmed humans or livestock, and over time, the villagers had become accustomed to them and no longer feared them. Sometimes when going into the mountains to collect firewood or mushrooms, they would even deliberately follow behind the beasts, knowing that where they were, not only the wild pigs that could harm people but even the carnivorous beasts that could eat people were nowhere to be seen.
Therefore, within the boundaries of Liu Yang Village, the villagers, although surprised to see the six enormous creatures out in broad daylight together, were not frightened. In fact, some villagers, under the dissatisfied glare of the beasts, kindly reminded Mo Qingze outside the carriage to restrain the Six Beasts. They were not worried about the beasts biting people but feared they might run around and scare passersby.
Some of the elderly and children were of a more timid nature and indeed could easily be frightened into illness, which was also Mo Yan’s concern. Along the way, she wished she could twist the ears of the Six Beasts as a reminder not to run amok and to simply be calm and fierce creatures following the carriage.
Aside from the hyper Little Flower and the less mature Mao Tuan, who enjoyed the game of scaring people, the other four beasts had no such inclination and thus followed the carriage quietly and orderly, occasionally reining in Little Flower and Mao Tuan when they strayed from the group.
Nevertheless, the tall, formidable, and rarely seen Six Beasts still caused quite a commotion. The ears of the six members of the Mo Family were almost ringing from the screams of fright along the road, forcing them to repeatedly explain to the startled passersby, offer apologies, and even have the Six Beasts display their Imperial Beast Plates hanging from their necks.
Later on, whenever they spotted people ahead, Mo Yan would have the Six Beasts avoid them by taking more remote paths. Though it was a detour, the Six Beasts, already annoyed by the screams, easily agreed to Mo Yan’s suggestion.
As for those who had been frightened earlier, news of their encounter with the Rui Beasts was spread vividly. The story was passed from one to ten, from ten to a hundred, and eventually, it became a tale of the Rui Beasts, personally anointed by The Emperor, causing havoc and scaring dozens of people to death.
