Each family sent one representative to collect the silver. Every time Mo Yan read out a name and announced the amount of silver that family would receive, a gasp of surprise sounded from within the crowd.
Each person whose name was called thanked Mo Yan before taking the shiny silver in hand and standing in front of their families, sharing the joy with their loved ones.
