Chapter 129: Starting a Mountain and Planting Trees (2)_1
Mo Yan’s eyes twinkled, and an idea formed in her mind. She had always wanted to explore the deep mountains to see if she could find some precious medicinal herbs. Last year, she went once and nearly died of fright when she encountered a pack of wolves. Now, with Little Flower by her side, she felt bolstered enough to venture forth.
Next, Mo Yan informed Mo Qingze about the settled matter of the fruit seedlings, but she didn’t mention what had happened with Lixiu.
Mo Qingze was delighted to hear the news, but there was so much work on the construction site that he couldn’t spare any attention to clearing the wild mountains, so he gave Mo Yan a few reminders.
Mo Yan nodded with a smile and, not having time to return for mealtime, chose to eat at the construction site instead.
The food on the construction site was already decent, and last night Little Flower had brought back a small wild boar, making the meal especially rich. The small wild boar wasn’t really small, but after eighty or ninety people had their share, not much meat was left on it.
Mo Yan left some meat in a bowl for Little Flower, who was quite picky and wouldn’t eat the leftover bones and meat from others; at home, even whole chickens were used to feed it.
Not long after the meal, Yang Bao personally visited the construction site to find Mo Yan and informed her that the people for clearing the wild mountains had been arranged.
Mo Yan hadn’t expected it to be so soon and quickly thanked him. She learned that most of the group consisted of older children and women, with only four or five men available for labor. She did not look down on this, knowing that it was the busy farming season and having even four or five laborers was quite good.
As for the wages, they were categorized into three groups: children would get ten Wen Money a day, mainly for weeding and picking up stones; women would get fifteen Wen a day, mainly for digging up grass and tree roots; and the laborers would get twenty-five Wen a day for felling larger trees and digging up large rocks buried in the ground, which was not an easy task.
The wages offered by Mo Yan were already quite high, and Yang Bao was very satisfied, as this would give him something to show the workers and act as a significant boost to his prestige.
They agreed to start work at the fifth quarter of the morning the next day, and Mo Yan then sent Yang Bao on his way. With the sun setting in the west and Little Flower still not back, Mo Yan didn’t have time to wait any longer. She asked Mo Qingze to tell Little Flower not to go up the mountain the next day.
