Chapter 1: THE BEGINNING
"It's over... In the end, my life was just a waste."
Those were the last words whispered by Kaito Sato as he stood at the edge of the rooftop, looking down at the cold, empty ground far below. The wind blew gently through his messy black hair, and the city lights in the distance flickered like dying stars. He was only nineteen years old, but he felt like he had lived a thousand lifetimes of pain and failure.
Kaito wasn't popular. He wasn't handsome. He had never been hugged by a girl, never even held a hand. He was a virgin.
People ignored him like he didn't exist. No one ever smiled at him, and no one would miss him. His face was plain, maybe even ugly by normal standards. He never went to parties, never made friends, never had fun. But there was one thing that gave him hope — his brain.
Kaito was smart. Really smart.
He had always been top of his class. No matter how boring or hard the subject was, he understood it like it was made for him. Math, science, history — he got full marks every single time. Teachers praised him. Students secretly envied him. His parents believed he would become someone great. They didn't say it often, but Kaito could feel their heavy expectations pressing down on his shoulders every day.
A month ago, he had taken the WSAT — the most important exam of his life, the one test that could get him into his dream university and finally prove that he was worth something. He walked out of the exam hall confident. For once, he had felt sure of himself. He thought this was the beginning of his real life, a better life.
But today... the results came out. And Kaito had failed.
He didn't believe it at first. He checked again and again. But the truth didn't change. The only thing he was ever good at — the one thing he believed in — had betrayed him. He didn't have good looks. He didn't have money. He didn't have friends or strength or charm. All he had was his brain. And now, even that was useless.
He couldn't face his parents. He couldn't face himself.
So he walked. He walked far away from his house, far from the streets he knew. The city was quiet, almost like it understood what he was about to do. He reached an old abandoned building, one he used to visit when he wanted to be alone. It was a place full of silence, dust, and broken memories.
