Chapter 48: Holdrake
Jett faced Roberto and the other commoners, explaining the situation. All of them stared at him with worried yet grateful expressions. Their time together had been brief, but they had fully enjoyed Jett’s hospitality.
"Thank you, my lord!" Roberto said, bowing deeply.
The others echoed in unison, "Thank you, my lord!"
"Don’t sweat it," Jett replied. "It was nothing. Once this is sorted, I’ll take you on one last ride across this part of the continent—I never break my promises. Until then, farewell."
"Farewell, my lord!" they called together.
Jett boarded his carriage, but from the corner of his eye, he noticed Ewelina sprinting toward them. She lacked her usual grace, likely having rushed over without time to attend to her appearance. Killing countless monsters must have cost her some rest. He left the carriage door ajar and let her peek inside. Once she looked in, he invited her aboard.
"Let’s talk inside," he said.
Ewelina climbed in and settled herself. "I understand. May I ask what’s the hurry?"
"This dragon plan’s worse than we figured," Jett explained. "There might already be carnage unfolding in the Stormcloud Dukedom’s capital."
