Chapter 41: Badly injured
Vivienne soared through the air, cradling Axelius in her arms, her eyes scanning the battlefield below. Lifeless bodies of wyverns and goblins were scattered across the grounds like broken toys, their twisted forms unmoving. Smoke curled from the places they crashed, and the guards stood around in stunned silence, their weapons still raised as if expecting another attack.
"What just happened...?" Vivienne murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. Her phoenix screeched softly from her shoulder, its flames dimmed now, feathers ruffled from the battle.
With a gentle descent, they landed on the ground, the wind swirling dust around them. Vivienne stepped off, her grip still firm on Axelius as she looked around. The phoenix flapped its wings once, then shrank down with a flash of light, perching neatly on Vivienne’s shoulder. Its eyes glowed with a flicker of fire, watching the scene warily.
"Young Master!" Millie cried out, rushing toward them with panic in her eyes. She reached out, hands trembling, but Vivienne held Axelius tightly. "He’s hurt badly..."
Vivienne’s expression hardened. She turned to the nearest guard. "Call the physician immediately!" she ordered, her voice sharp and unyielding. The guard snapped out of his stupor, nodding quickly before dashing off toward the mansion.
Without another word, they hurried inside, Millie following closely, her hands clasped nervously. As they moved through the halls, the maids and butlers gasped, whispering amongst themselves as they saw Axelius limp in Vivienne’s arms, blood staining his clothes.
"Young Master..." Millie whispered, eyes glimmering with tears.
A soft groan escaped Axelius’s lips. His eyelids fluttered, and with effort, they cracked open. The first thing he saw was a familiar blue blob sitting right on his chest, practically bouncing in worry. "Axel! Don’t you dare die!" Owen shouted, his slimy form jiggling anxiously.
Axelius gave a weak chuckle but immediately winced, a sharp pain flaring in his ribs. "I-I’m not...gonna die, idiot..." he muttered, his voice barely a whisper.
