Chapter 142: Betrayal
"Rolan, what’s wrong with you? Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
Rose knelt beside him, trying to help him up. He was lying on the floor, weak and bleeding. There was blood near his mouth. Panic flooded Rose’s eyes. She nearly burst into tears—she just wanted to help him, to protect him, to find a way to fix this.
But just as she held Rolan, trying to support him, a hand grabbed her wrist. It was Damien.
"Now that he’s at his weakest, you finally have the chance to escape," Damien said coldly. "Why are you still here trying to save a monster, when this is your time to run?"
Rose hesitated, glancing at Rolan, then back at Damien. What he said made sense. She had been searching for an escape. And now—Rolan was down, vulnerable. This was her chance.
But her heart screamed No. I want to help him.
"Rose," Yuna’s voice echoed sharply in her mind, "you want to help your psychopath ex when you could be running for your life? Are you actually stupid?"
Rose frowned. Lately, Yuna had been acting... strange. Arrogant. Like something dark had started radiating from her.
Rolan clutched her hand tightly, refusing to let go. On the other side, Damien held her wrist too, not letting her leave. She was caught between them, physically and emotionally.
"Rose," Rolan whispered, eyes heavy with pain, "you’re really going to leave me like this?"
She saw the blood dripping from the corner of his lips. Something inside her cracked.
