Chapter 107: who hurt her
Rose glanced at Roland briefly, pretending not to notice him staring at her with a frown, as if he were upset. She was entirely focused on herself—her own mood, everything that had happened to her.
The sound of the door clicking open caught their attention. Five police officers entered the ward, and Rose simply stared at them coldly. The officers greeted them before stepping forward toward Rose’s bed.
"Ma’am, we need to get some details from you about what happened," one of the officers said, gesturing toward Rose.
She looked at him blankly, saying nothing. The officer hesitated, an awkward expression crossing his face. He didn’t know what to say or how to proceed—the way Rose was looking at him, it was as if he were the one responsible for the accident in her office.
Roland offered the officer a polite smile and stepped in. "Officer, please, I believe she is still in shock. Her legs... they have been..." He trailed off, unable to finish. He didn’t want to say it out loud, didn’t want to remind Rose of her ruined, damaged legs.
The officers exchanged glances, understanding his meaning. However, they still needed to conduct their investigation.
"Ma’am, I’m sorry to bring this up and remind you of your trauma, but we need to understand what happened. This is for your own good—we’re trying to seek justice for you," the officer said gently.
Rose clenched her fists, staring at him as she fought back the tears threatening to spill. She took a deep breath before finally speaking.
"I don’t know what happened," she said. "All I know is that I was in my office, working, when I heard an explosion. At first, it didn’t seem like it came from inside my office. When I heard it, I got up and tried to leave, but I couldn’t. Then there was another explosion—it caught me off guard, and I was trapped in the disaster. I hit the door, I tried to call for help—I called my contacts to come and rescue me—but no one came. No one came."
