Vol. 1 - Ch. 306 - The Realm of Spirit Wood
After experimenting with the unfamiliar energies for a while, Ji Yang chose not to absorb them anymore.
Although the Immortal Spirit Body could break through his own limits, Ji Yang had his suspicions. His growth was likely tied to the types of energy he absorbed.
Perhaps if he absorbed enough of the world’s Spiritual Qi, he would evolve in that direction.
Likewise, if he absorbed enough Qi and Blood, perhaps another transformation would occur.
Currently, as a Netherworld Locust Tree, his trunk naturally draws in Yin Qi and releases it outward. This was highly beneficial for cultivating his clan’s soul bodies.
However, if he switched to absorbing other energies, that effect might vanish.
For the sake of his family's development, it was best to remain as he was.
Nevertheless, this ability had given him a new ceiling for growth. If he could obtain the complete Immortal Spirit Body one day, its effects would surely be far more astonishing.
Ji Yang was not overly worried. As long as he ran enough simulations, he would eventually return to the Immortal Realm and complete the Immortal Spirit Body.
After summarizing the results of this simulation, Ji Yang did not stop. Instead, he immediately began his next Tenfold Simulation!
The scene that had just faded began to change again.
This time, Ji Yang closed his eyes and withdrew his awareness. He chose not to look.
"If I can't see, then every simulation will be a surprise!"
In order to enter higher-level maps, Ji Yang had already begun to numb himself to the unknown.
After a short while, he slowly opened his eyes.
A dense forest shrouded in thick mist greeted him. Towering trunks of immense trees rose on either side.
His own body, spanning ten or so zhang, seemed utterly insignificant in comparison.
He tried to peer farther, but the white fog blocked his view, limiting it to only a few dozen meters ahead.
Still, the sight around him drew a sigh. The map of this simulation seemed ordinary; not one of the advanced realms he had hoped for.
At that moment, a new prompt appeared before him:
【You are born within the Spirit Wood Realm! In order to become a towering tree, you must grow diligently!】
The message was the same as before, yet the few different words at the start made Ji Yang pause.
Spirit Wood Realm... It doesn't sound any weaker than the Immortal Domain.
The most striking thing about this new realm was the tranquility it brought to Ji Yang. It felt as though he belonged there, as though the Spirit Wood Realm itself welcomed him.
Before he could process this thought, another prompt appeared:
【Growing within the Spirit Wood Realm, you feel an inexplicable harmony. You swiftly develop spiritual awareness.】
Indeed, this place seemed perfectly suited for him. Ji Yang nodded slightly at the message but remained cautious, scanning his surroundings.
Surely, there won't be any unexpected dangers this time.
All around him, massive trees stood in chaotic disorder, clearly untouched by pruning hands.
As time passed, Ji Yang began to grow rapidly upward.
Despite the towering trees and thick mist blocking out the sunlight, he grew faster here than in any other simulation.
When he reached a height of thirty meters, the white mist began to thin, allowing his vision to stretch farther.
Only then did he realize that he was growing amidst endless mountain ranges. Wherever he looked, there were trees—nothing but trees—stretching beyond sight.
Ji Yang's doubts about the "spirit" in the Spirit Wood Realm were soon answered.
Suddenly, the ground began to tremble violently.
Before he could extend his roots to sense the disturbance, strange sounds echoed in his ears.
The next moment, he was stunned to see the towering trees around him rise from the earth. Their massive trunks pulled free from the soil, and the trees began to move slowly across the forest.
Ji Yang froze, then looked closer and finally understood. These were not ordinary trees. Like him, they were spiritual beings.
"This is truly the Spirit Wood Realm," he marveled.
But his wonder quickly turned to unease.
A new prompt appeared before his eyes:
【Your newly awakened spiritual awareness has drawn the attention of the other Spirit Trees. What will you choose?】
【Rise in resistance】
【Remain indifferent】
【Offer goodwill】
Ji Yang hesitated. The choice was not simple. He had noticed that the surrounding trees were not of his kind. They were all different types of Spirit Trees, but none were locust trees like him.
Ji Yang's uniqueness as a locust tree was apparent—there was likely no other tree like him in this world.
As he prepared to resist, he suddenly sensed something unusual. The giant trees weren't moving in a hostile manner. In fact, it seemed as if they were shifting to give him more space to grow.
Moreover, one of the abilities he brought with him into this simulation was Keen Perception. Throughout his growth, he had detected no danger. If the Spirit Trees had wanted to attack, they would have done so long ago.
With this realization, Ji Yang chose to offer goodwill.
Immediately, the strange sounds around him changed. They were no longer incomprehensible murmurs, but words he could understand.
The voices came from the nearby ancient Spirit Trees and were filled with joy, celebrating his awakening of spiritual awareness. Their earlier movements had indeed been to make room for him and acknowledge him as one of their own.
【You offered goodwill, successfully joining the Spirit Wood Clan and gaining their protection!】
Ji Yang’s eyes lit up at the prompt. Even if he had chosen indifference, it likely wouldn't have mattered much, but the third choice proved to be far better.
With the Spirit Wood Realm's protection, his growth accelerated once again. Soon, he reached a height of over one hundred meters, aided in part by the blessings of the other ancient Spirit Trees.
He thought he might continue growing peacefully, reaching new heights and perhaps becoming the greatest tree in the Spirit Wood Realm. Yet, before long, the ground trembled once more.
This time, the vibrations did not come from nearby but from far away.
The thunderous rumbling stirred the surrounding Spirit Trees from their slumber. Upon sensing the disturbance, they became enraged, muttering curses under their breath. Their branches all pointed in the same direction.
Following their lead, Ji Yang looked into the distance and was astonished.
There, rushing swiftly toward them, were humanoid beings several meters tall.
"So the Spirit Wood Realm is not inhabited solely by these colossal trees," thought Ji Yang, his surprise deepening.
Ji Yang’s eyes widened as the frozen prompt revealed the truth.
【The Goblin Tribe’s army charges forth, intent on exterminating the Ancient Tree Clan. For the sake of your growth, you must decide:】
【Stand and resist】
【Watch from afar】
【Retreat quietly】
The image of the goblins was grotesque. Their faces were twisted and their mouths were stretched wide, revealing jagged teeth. Their skin was a pale, sickly green and covered in wart-like bumps. Yet their eyes gleamed with sharp cunning, and they carried crude stone weapons.
Now, as their army surged forward, they moved with terrifying confidence—like predators entering a land without opposition.
Ji Yang felt a chill. The Spirit Wood Realm is not only home to Spirit Trees, but also to hostile tribes bent on annihilation.
