The Spirit-Tailed Chicken wandered leisurely, traversing the entire clan estate as if inspecting its teritory. Soon, it arrived outside the ancestral hall.
Seeing the tightly closed doors, a trace of disdain flickered in its eyes. Without hesitation, it flapped its wings and soared over the outer wall, landing effortlessly inside.
Spirit-Tailed Chickens could only manage short bursts of flight, but this one seemed to glide farther than usual.
Inside the hall, it took a quick survey of its surroundings before its gaze locked onto the lush locust tree at the center. Spreading its wings, it prepared to leap onto a branch, as these creatures preferred to rest in high places.
Yet just as it took off, a root suddenly shot out and blocked its way.
The unexpected obstruction made the Spirit-Tailed Chicken freeze momentarily. However, it didn’t attempt to challenge it again. Instead, it settled under the tree, closed its eyes, and began to doze off.
Above, Ji Yang silently observed its every move.
Clearly, this particular Spirit-Tailed Chicken had undergone a mutation due to its awakened abilities. The most notable change was in its intelligence—it had become noticeably smarter.
Ji Yang had once considered raising ferocious beasts, but he never would have chosen a Spirit-Tailed Chicken. Such creatures had little to offer the clan in terms of strength. However, after awakening its spirit, its meat did seem to have become more flavorful.
As for this one, he decided to keep it for now. At the very least, it could serve as a mild distraction from his daily monotony.
At that moment, Chen Xingzhen entered the ancestral hall and immediately spotted the chicken resting beneath the tree. His expression stiffened slightly, but since the Divine Tree had not reacted against it, he chose to remain silent.
After a brief moment of silent prayer, a shimmering screen of light appeared before Chen Xingzhen, revealing two figures—Chen Qinghe and Chen Qingmeng—sneaking out of the estate.
Confirming his suspicions, he sighed.
It was only natural for the younger generation to yearn for the outside world. He could understand that. However, given the current circumstances, it was not a suitable time for them to leave and train beyond the clan's protection.
But now that they had already departed, there was nothing he could do. He could only hope they remained cautious and avoided trouble.
The outside world was neither as safe as the clan estate nor as predictable as the Chaotic Burial Mountain.
Once Chen Xingzhen left, Ji Yang shifted his focus inward, reassessing his own state.
With the clan beginning to connect with the outside world, he too needed to make the necessary preparations.
