Chapter 399: Giving Her a Makeover
Ningwan and Wu Taotao exchanged a glance; Jin Yingzi isn’t incompatible with Wen Jianan in values, it’s her insecurity.
Even though she’s now a somewhat famous traditional Chinese medicine doctor with excellent skills, standing on her own, she can’t throw away the deep-seated insecurity in her bones.
"Hey, Feng Jiuzun, any news?"
Ningwan’s phone rang; it was Feng Jiuzun calling.
Feng Jiuzun said, "Yeah, just right, there’s a business dinner happening at Tenghuang Hotel in the west of the city, starting at nine, in an hour. Do you want to go?"
"Do we need an invitation to go?" Ningwan asked.
Feng Jiuzun said, "Of course you need one, but don’t worry, I’ll get you one."
Ningwan mouthed to Wu Taotao to ask, and Wu Taotao shook her head.
Ningwan said, "Two invitations, I need two."
"Is Zhan Hanjue going too? He’s going himself, but still wants me to help him get an invitation?" Feng Jiuzun shouted.
Ningwan said, "It’s not Zhan Hanjue; I’m taking someone else. Anyway, hurry and get me the invitations."
"Okay, okay, I’ll help you, but I’m not in Jiangcheng, so I’ll leave it to someone else to do. Tell me an address, and that person will come to find you later."
"You’re still in Tong City? Have you seen Xunyou?" Ningwan asked nosily.
Feng Jiuzun chuckled, "No, but soon."
Then he hung up the phone.
Ningwan frowned slightly, always feeling that these words were a bit strange, but she didn’t ask any further.
There’s only an hour left, not much time for them.
Ningwan immediately asked Wu Taotao to help them contact a stylist and have some outfits prepared.
Then, she booked a room at a nearby hotel and took Jin Yingzi there to change clothes and apply makeup.
Jin Yingzi looked bewildered as she was dragged to the hotel.
Wu Taotao was quick to act, just that the makeup artist wasn’t very skilled, and the clothes delivered were also mediocre.
Wu Taotao awkwardly explained, "Given my status, that’s all I know. If you want something better, you should call Zhan Hanjue. He can definitely arrange the right people for you."
"He never deals with such matters; how would he arrange the right people for me? Besides, I don’t want him to know about this," Ningwan said.
Wu Taotao widened her eyes, "Why don’t you want him to know? Did you two have a falling out?"
"Of course not, it’s just... we’ve been apart for too long. The person is still the same, and the feeling still familiar, just without understanding why... Let’s first adjust to it for a while."
Ningwan didn’t know how to explain.
Actually, she knew Zhan Hanjue had been hinting all along, hoping they could be like a normal couple.
But in her mind, something felt missing, always pretending not to know.
Since she’s feigning ignorance, naturally, she can’t ask him for help with things too.
"I don’t get it, strange as ever, whatever, I won’t bother with you anymore. I’ll leave the person to you; I must go back, Ye Shao has been urging me," Wu Taotao said.
Ningwan nodded, watching Wu Taotao leave.
Once Wu Taotao left, Ningwan picked out an outfit for Jin Yingzi.
Jin Yingzi’s clothes were mainly casual.
She grew up in the countryside and was a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner.
Usually, besides treating patients, she would go up mountains to collect herbs and even rented a piece of land in the countryside to cultivate them.
Many herbs she needed to plant herself, so she practically never wore high heels or skirts, which would be inconvenient for her.
Ningwan flipped through the dresses, found a pair of culottes, and gave them to her, saying, "Go on, try these on."
"I don’t wear skirts," Jin Yingzi said.
Ningwan replied, "I know, that’s why this is not a skirt, it’s culottes. It looks like a skirt, but it’s actually pants. Try them on, they’re comfortable and you’ll look pretty. Yingzi, if you want to change, start somewhere. If you remain stuck here, you’ll never move forward in your relationship with Wen Jianan. Even the strongest love can fail when only one person puts in the effort. Think about these years, Wen Jianan never forced you to fit into his world, have you ever thought about doing something for him?"
Jin Yingzi frowned.
"Just give it a try, if you really don’t like it, we’ll reconsider," Ningwan said, placing the outfit in her arms.
Jin Yingzi took the clothes into the bathroom to change.
Before long, she came out of the bathroom.
Ningwan smiled and asked, "How is it? Not hard to accept, is it?"
Jin Yingzi nodded.
Because it’s pants, not a skirt, she didn’t feel very insecure.
Also, the top was a white fitted shirt, though the neckline was a bit large, the style of the shirt was loose. Worn on the body, it didn’t feel out of place.
"First, let’s do her makeup," Ningwan said to the makeup artist.
The makeup artist nodded and motioned for Jin Yingzi to sit down.
Ningwan instructed again, "Remember, give her a light makeup; although she looks good in both heavy and light makeup, light makeup suits her better."
"Okay," the makeup artist agreed.
Ningwan picked out a dress for herself and went to the bathroom to change into it.
She chose a backless mermaid gown that accentuated her curvy figure.
Coming out of the bathroom, the makeup artist couldn’t help but show a look of amazement.
"Miss Ye, you look truly beautiful."
"Thank you for the compliment," Ningwan said with a smile.
However, she took a look at Jin Yingzi’s makeup and frowned slightly.
She said to the makeup artist, "Take a break, I’ll do the rest for her."
The makeup artist nodded and sat aside.
Ningwan trimmed Jin Yingzi’s eyebrows, giving them a willow leaf shape.
"Your face shape fits these eyebrows well, so it looks a lot better."
Jin Yingzi looked in the mirror, indeed it looked much better than before.
"You know how to apply makeup?" Jin Yingzi was surprised.
She remembered back in school, Ningwan didn’t like makeup and claimed she didn’t know how to do it.
"I learned while overseas; some occasions require you to go out and meet people, and not wearing makeup is considered disrespectful," Ningwan explained.
Jin Yingzi nodded.
After finishing her makeup, Ningwan applied a vibrant look for herself as well, and the two went out together.
Feng Jiuzun instructed the person delivering the invitations to come over, handed the invitations to Ningwan, and drove them to the Tenghuang Hotel.
"Miss Ye, I’m not going in."
"Alright, thank you for driving us here," Ningwan thanked.
With Jin Yingzi holding their purses, they walked together towards the hotel.
The two presented their invitations, and the people at the door guided them inside.
The doors of the hall opened, light intertwined inside while soft music gently floated, mixed with low conversations.
Ningwan slightly curled her lips, whispered to Jin Yingzi, "Follow me inside, be bold, be relaxed, don’t be that nervous."
"But I don’t know these people," Jin Yingzi said.
Ningwan laughed, "No worries, they don’t know you either. Say a few words and you’ll get to know them. You don’t have to remember, anyway, next time they’ll introduce themselves automatically, it just depends on if you’re confident enough."
Jin Yingzi was somewhat doubtful.
