Chapter 387: A Man of Romance
Ye Ningwan changed the bandages for most of the patients. After finishing, she stretched lazily and suddenly remembered that Zhan Hanjue had an appointment with her.
She quickly took out her phone and found that it had been exactly two hours since Little Shitou told her the time.
"Chen, continue to watch over here. I have something to attend to, so I’ll leave for a while," Ye Ningwan said to the nurse.
The nurse nodded.
Ye Ningwan hurriedly ran towards the small riverbank, quickening her pace along the way, and finally arrived at the riverbank.
However, there was no one there.
Could he have left already?
Ye Ningwan felt a bit disappointed and didn’t know what Zhan Hanjue wanted to say to her. But to leave so quickly was really lacking patience.
"You’re here."
Suddenly, a man’s voice sounded from behind.
Ye Ningwan immediately turned around and saw Zhan Hanjue walking leisurely towards her with one hand behind his back.
Ye Ningwan lightly coughed, apologizing, "I’m sorry, I was delayed by changing bandages and didn’t realize the time. I thought you had left. What did you want to see me about?"
"For you."
Zhan Hanjue brought out a bouquet from behind and offered it to Ye Ningwan.
Ye Ningwan looked at the bouquet in surprise.
It was made of medicinal flowers and herbs all bundled together.
Although they were just medicinal plants, their diverse colors looked amazingly beautiful, on par with carefully selected flowers.
Most importantly, they could also be used in medicine, making them perfect for someone like her, a traditional Chinese doctor.
"Thank you, I really like it," Ye Ningwan accepted the flowers and thanked Zhan Hanjue.
She genuinely did like them.
More than roses or lilies, they were much more to her liking.
Hearing her say she liked them, a smile could not help but play on Zhan Hanjue’s lips, and he looked at her with joy in his eyes, his heart full of excitement.
"Oh, also, close your eyes," Zhan Hanjue said again.
Ye Ningwan looked at him with confusion.
Zhan Hanjue pleaded, "Close them, trust me, I won’t do anything to you."
Ye Ningwan thought to herself, I’m not afraid of what you might do to me.
She closed her eyes.
But Zhan Hanjue, fearing she might peek, hesitated for a moment before reaching out to cover her eyes.
"What exactly is happening?"
Ye Ningwan was a bit nervous being blindfolded by him.
Zhan Hanjue said, "Don’t worry. I’ll tell you when you can open your eyes."
The mystery of it all was truly making Ye Ningwan amused yet exasperated, so she could only nod in agreement.
"Alright, you can open them now," Zhan Hanjue said as he released his hand.
Ye Ningwan opened her eyes.
In the scene that had been a quiet, deep river surface, there suddenly appeared numerous bamboo rafts.
On the bamboo rafts, candles were lit, coming together to form three large words.
I love you.
In the next moment, fireworks erupted across the river, dazzling the sky like countless stars.
Ye Ningwan watched it all in shocked awe, amused yet inexplicably touched.
She thought after all she had experienced, she’d have outgrown such romantic scenes.
Unexpectedly, romance was suitable for every woman.
Watching the brilliant fireworks in the sky and the drifting candles with their declaration of love, her heart swelled uncontrollably with emotion.
"Ye Ningwan, I love you."
Zhan Hanjue embraced her from behind, holding her tightly.
It took Ye Ningwan a while to calm down. She smiled and asked, "Whose idea was this?"
"Of course, it was mine," Zhan Hanjue stubbornly whispered, "Actually, I’m a very romantic person. Don’t think I’m not."
"I never said you weren’t romantic," Ye Ningwan immediately responded.
"Really? You think I’m romantic?" Zhan Hanjue happily turned her around.
The more Ye Ningwan thought about it, the more it didn’t seem right.
"Did someone tell you something?"
"No," Zhan Hanjue’s eyes flickered.
Ye Ningwan noticed that after losing his memory, his ability to lie had weakened.
Clearly, someone did say something, yet he lied.
"If you don’t tell me, I’ll get angry," Ye Ningwan feigned anger.
Zhan Hanjue, fearing the atmosphere he worked so hard to create would be ruined by such a small matter, reluctantly confessed, "It was Shuixian who said I wasn’t romantic, that no women would like me, and that you wouldn’t like me either."
Ye Ningwan was speechless.
"And you actually believed what she said? You’re such a fool."
"So, what she said was false, you do like me, right?" Zhan Hanjue felt a surge of joy, grabbing her shoulders as he asked.
Ye Ningwan mumbled quietly, "I never said that."
"Do you like me or not?" Zhan Hanjue asked urgently.
Ye Ningwan didn’t know what to say and could only explain, "Zhan Hanjue, we’ve been apart for four years. Over these four years... I admit I haven’t forgotten you. But if you ask me whether I like you now, I admit that I do."
"I like you too, no, I love you," Zhan Hanjue said passionately, holding her tightly.
Ye Ningwan hurriedly saved her flowers, holding them high lest they get crushed by his embrace.
"Let me finish," Ye Ningwan pushed him away and continued, "I do like you, but liking doesn’t mean we can be together, forget everything that happened, and live happily ever after. Fairytales always end with them living happily ever after. But living together is a long time, and many things will happen in between. You don’t remember the things I said to you before, so I’ll say it again: I want to revive the Holy Doctor Sect, Li Qingqing helped me reorganize it, but it was decayed, profit-driven. So I need to purify it, which requires a lot of work. This is my dream and my master’s dying wish, and I will work hard for my dream, but emotions cannot become a shackle for me."
"What does that mean?" Zhan Hanjue asked, frowning.
Ye Ningwan said, "It means I need to focus on my career, so matters of emotions will have to wait for now."
"Is it just putting it off temporarily, or do you not want to be with me at all? Are you hesitating?" Zhan Hanjue raised his voice to ask.
Ye Ningwan frowned at him.
Zhan Hanjue asked seriously, "Did Shuixian say you have an antidote that can help me regain my memory, is that right?"
Ye Ningwan remained silent.
Zhan Hanjue laughed bitterly, "It seems she’s right. You don’t want me to regain my memory because you don’t want me to remember the past and continue to pester you?"
"You really believe everything she says," Ye Ningwan said with a stern face.
"I don’t believe her, that’s why I’m asking you, why on earth?" Zhan Hanjue demanded.
Ye Ningwan took a deep breath and told him with a straight face, "Because you hurt me four years ago, because your forgetfulness caused you to do things that hurt me. I’m afraid that if you actually remember, you’ll feel pain, sadness, remorse, and despair. So when I got the antidote, I hesitated whether to give it to you, whether to let you regain your memory. I didn’t expect you’d misunderstand me."
