Chapter 491: Is this a short gun marriage?
It was not everyday that someone’s life changed in a manner of hours, not Ringo’s life anyway. His work life was turbulent but his personal life was calm and steady like a ship sailing on calm waters and he liked it this way. But today was not the day for calmness, it was a day for turbulence. When he took Jiang Cherry to meet his higher ups he did not expect to be any further involved in her affairs, but that’s not how the higher ups saw it. After interviewing her, threatening and coercing, his boss had come out five minutes ago to tell him that she could not be trusted. What happened next however was the biggest shock he had received in his life, bigger than when his younger brother suddenly had children.
"We have looked into the woman’s background and when she was sixteen, she wrote in her high school year book that her goal was to take a photograph that would put her on the map in the news world. She is a photojournalist that apparently she seeks to convey the truth with her pictures. She has taken some scandalous pictures before and published them on her secret account named the ’truth-seeker’. For that reason we cannot trust her at all, she might go ahead and publish her pictures even after we threaten or cajole her. If she were any other person we would find a way of containing her but she is not and the Jiang family will make a fuss if she disappears. Moreover you said that her brother knows your identity and he saw you taking her."
"So what do you want me to do?" Ringo asked.
"Son," his boss touched his shoulder gently and he said, "You might have another sacrifice for the empire." His boss was sixty three years old, he always referred to Ringo as son because of his age.
"What kind of sacrifice?" Ringo asked his boss.
"Marriage." his boss said.
"Marriage." Ringo repeated after his boss.
’Yes, I have spoken to the girl and we have come to the perfect arrangement. In order to protect our safety, she has to align her interests with ours. If she reveals what she knows then her life will also be ruined. Son, please understand that this was not my idea, I offered her other options but she chose you."
Confused, Ringo stared blankly at his boss, what was he talking about? Why was he being so vague? His boss was not the kind of man that beat around the bush, he was usually very forthcoming and commanding.
