Chapter 489: Grandpa Wang’s schemes.
Someone else that had troubles was Chi Wei. He went away to the army base to get away from women, train his body, find some solace and get his mind right. However right from the first day when he joined the capital base, one woman had stuck to herself to him like glue. Every morning when they were running as a group, she would coincidentally end up running next to him. During meals she would coincidentally be sitting opposite him. When he was training alone she would show up to train as well. When partners were being assigned for various activities she would miraculously end up being assigned as his partner. Either the universe was trying to send him some signals or he was standing in the midst of a very big conspiracy. Chi Wei was suspicious, the only thing that held him back from rebuking her was the fact that she hardly said anything to him apart from a greeting or a nod of acknowledgement here and there.
She never even introduced herself to him, he learned her name from a soldier, she was called Su Manchu. From what he had gathered so far, she was a daughter of the Su family, the minister of state for security was her cousin. He wondered often why the daughter of a wealthy family chose to join the army, but he had seen her fight many times and she was quite skilled. If he had not taken that serum which his sister made old tiger give him she would have kicked his ass many times over.
Chi Wei had just got out of one relationship and he did not think that he was ready for another one so soon but the proximity between himself and Su Manchu had caused him to think about her quite often. He even knew some of her eating habits now, like how she hated peppers of all kinds, whether they were red, green, yellow or orange. She could not stand them and she separated them from her food during meals. She had this routine where she would take three bites of food and one sip of water consistently in that order. One time he was tempted to ask her why she did it but she walked away before he could say anything. It puzzled him really why she was close to him but also far at the same time.
They were having breakfast and as usual she was sitting directly opposite of him, ’one, two, three’ he counted each spoon of porridge that she ate.
"I..." he suddenly said, "I am Chi Wei." the words came out of his mouth rapidly. It was almost as if he could hardly hold them back.
She stared at him blankly, put down her spoon and wiped her mouth, then picked up her tray and walked away without responding.
Chi Wei’s heart was beating fast from a nervousness which filled him out of nowhere.
"Aish," he whispered, "What was that?" He was even more confused because he could not tell if his self introduction was what prompted her to walk away.
"Brother Wei," one of the few friends he had made in the army rubbed his shoulder, "Don’t worry about Manchu, she is cold at first but when you get to know her she is a very warm and sweet girl. Manchu is the type of person who will have your back no matter what. If you want to hit on that beauty however, you should know that you have some strong competition. Look at all the soldiers that are glaring at you."
