Chapter 200: A royal decree
Who exactly had come for her mother to caution her on her behavior so thoroughly? Not even Minister Su aroused this much tension. It had to be someone way higher on the pole than the minister.
"T4, can you check?"
"Accessing the security cameras now." T4 responded. A few seconds later, he said "Deng Chenzi, one of the royal butlers who work personally for the emperor."
Chi Lian was frazzled, what did the royal butler want from her? Was he here for foodstuffs and fruits?
With many questions in her mind, she walked out of the house. There was a few guards standing outside, they wore proper suits with gold and yellow lapels. She could easily tell that they were armed and their aura was quite dangerous. It was as clear as day that they did not belong to any common household.
These were royal guards; she had seen a few of them when the Queen dowager and Grand emperor were in B city.
Royal guards only followed members of the royal house or someone who was delivering a royal decree. Times may have changed but in the empires some things remained the same. When it came to commoners, if one was summoned by the emperor, they would take one knee to the ground unless he commanded them to stand up. Women had to take both knees to the ground, otherwise, in a short dress one would reveal her inner garments to the emperor and that was simply unheard of.
Chi Lian who came from the modern twenty first century found these rules appalling. In the world she came from, people knelt before no one but the God they worshipped. Kneeling before a fellow man was disturbing. It was a habit she was yet to learn. She had not yet met the emperor anyway so for now it was a non-issue.
But these same rules followed a royal decree, once it was presented; all commoners had to bow as long as it was not personally presented by the Emperor himself.
