As I worked on the method to bring true life to the planet’s inhabitants, Karl had a very different idea. He wanted to know what happens if you turn an entire world into a giant magical circle.
Back on Earth, there were legends about it even among the non supernatural mundane population. The Earth Spirit, Mother Earth, and various other names are for mystic sentience to the planet itself. It’s often linked to the ley lines, which this planet doesn’t have yet.
That’s what made Karl think it was a planet-sized magical circle. Basic sentience that rewards desired actions and attitudes is child’s play for the mage; it’s only one of the many elements of the Golem spell after all, but executing a self-perpetuating one on a planetary scale? That’s just crazy talk.
We’ve got both the time and energy available here to try it. If Karl is right, encompassing the whole planet will let the spell recover the energy expended afterward, as everyone it affects will still be within the confines of the spell.
It ends up taking both Karl and Elder working together to cast the spell. Since, despite the advantages of this creation sphere, a mage still needs to see his magical circles as he activates them until he has mastered the technique.
But on a planetary scale, you can only ever see half the spell, so a second caster is needed, working on a concert with the creator of the circle, to do the parts that the other can’t see to activate.
The final result is magnificent, a latticework of Ley Lines all over the planet, pulsing with energy and slowly forming a core
Consciousness for the planet. The four among us who can use energy in mana form are working on improving the Continents, shaping the spell to maintain them in their desired state, disregarding the climate balancing effect of the star and the planetary orbit.
Sitting with Lala in a mountain valley while I work on bringing everything to true life is a great way to pass the time. Her natural energy level keeps me motivated, drastically cutting the time Iwould have needed to discover the technique.
