Chapter 295
"We will now adjourn for a two hour break. Please be back in your seats on time so we can get these proceedings finished." The Demon Mediator Zircon announces once it’s clear no more questions for me are incoming.
I take Mila’s hand and climb down from the chair, leading her back to the dragons before I hear the annoyed sound of Mayor Johan’s voice and see the Imperial Guard coming my way. Fat chance gentlemen, this Titan is mine, and we’re going for lunch together.
The dragons seem to think our friendship is amusing, partially because we both treat the other as a pet, and they’re willing to let that slide just to ease the boredom that comes during the trial portion of these proceedings.
Mila either doesn’t notice or doesn’t care that we’re headed away from the rest of her species and towards the side of the room where the dragons have had a huge amount of snack food and roasted meat brought in. Every contingent ordered something different for lunch, and I fully intend to make my way around the room and try them all.
I know the Dragons won’t mind, neither will the Lycans. The Demons will probably be fine with it, it’s just the Nephilim and the Titans that might be an issue. But with Mila with me, the Titans should be fine, and I can keep her away from the Imperial Guard for a while.
He’s fully aware of what I’m doing, but the looks that the Dragons are giving him is keeping him out of this section, not wanting to cause an incident when it’s a Titan City on trial here.
"Hey Ragnar, what’s the deal with the Titan Imperial Guard? Mila here is supposed to be a marriage candidate, and that guy’s been everywhere today. In the attack on the carriage this morning, where they mistakenly thought she was along with her father going to work, then again at her house by her mother’s bedroom, then finally here at the trial. Every time he looks different, but he smells like the same person." If anyone other than the Titans would know, it would be a senior Avatar of the Dragon Gods.
"He’s likely been tasked to fake her assassination. The ones chosen to join the Imperial family have to break all ties with their families, and it’s easier to do that if everyone thinks they’re dead. That’s why the Imperial Guards are always in disguise, even their members are held to the same standards, but they go out in public and can’t risk someone recognizing them. The fact you can distinguish his scent is incredible though, they do their best to mask it." The Red Dragon explains.
That makes sense now. I should go ask him, it’ll be fun.
I walk directly over to him, with Mila in tow, smiling at his look of confusion. "I’m informed that you’re here for the successful candidate, and you want her to disappear without a trace, to break ties with her family."
