Chapter 254
"Should we walk the rest of the way to the Pack or do you want to open a gate in and then clear our way back out again?" I ask Karl, tilting my chin at the witches who obviously can’t keep up the sort of pace that we can. Walking with them it would take days to get to Alpha Conway’s pack.
"It’s best if we all transfer over. Safety in numbers, and it would be better to get the full story of what happened when we’re not at risk of being attacked." Karl agrees.
Karl focuses for a moment then opens a gate, a shimmering purple circle a little taller than he is. Through it I can see the pack grounds, tinted with the people of Arcane magic. But they’re not peacefully waiting for us to arrive, they’re under attack. Werewolves in their wolf form are everywhere, fighting a combination of overgrown magical Beasts and what look like horrors from someone’s bad acid trip.
"Get healing pills ready. I will be going first." I call back to Karl and jump through the gate, drawing a pair of swords from my storage rings. They’re well suited for this situation, double sided blades short enough to not interfere with kicks and tumbling maneuvers.
There are category 4 magical Beasts right at the gate, stalking a pair of low ranked warriors from the pack. They don’t even realize I’m coming, gates are only visible from the side they’re opened from, and I cleanly remove both heads before moving on to the next target, a massive bear. It’s occupied with a large black werewolf, so I drive my sword deep into its side, aiming for the heart and sending a wave of Death Energy through my blade and into the Beasts body.
The mighty bear drops immediately, its heart stopped by the attack, landing with a heavy thud that draws attention from some horrific mutation made up of a couple different species. It looks mostly like a gazelle, but with a mountain lion head and front legs.
It’s strong too, my blade just can’t seem to get a good bite, so I switch to a spinning kick as I dodge an attack, the Energy Dragons following and reinforcing it, shattering the creature’s ribs with a sickening crunch. The Black werewolf finishes it off and moves to follow me, offering assistance.
This is either Alpha Conway or a strong warrior in his pack going by the size, so I’m not going to turn him down, even if I could take care of this on my own.
The werewolf goes for the throat of a cockatrice and I jump on its back, ripping its wings off and leaving it to my partner before launching myself at a pair of hairless mutated monstrosities that are going after a pair of children too young to shift into wolf form. If they’re strong, werewolves will shift astound age six, and the very weakest of omega wolves will have shifted by fourteen or fifteen unless they’re injured or abused.
The kids can see what I’m doing and are bravely waving pointed sticks like a sword, distracting their attackers. My sword flows smoothly through the neck of the first as I vault over top to slam my foot into the head of the second, flattening it and killing whatever that thing was.
