Chapter 233
After lunch I take our guests on a tour around the city, showing them all the sights and architectural oddities of my beloved Arcana.
After escorting them through the city, I have learned a number of things. Ice cream from Rank 2 magical cow Beasts is universally good. Building a walled city on floating pillars to maximize green space is not a unique idea, the Seraphim like to do it too. Ialso learned that we did it well enough to impress the Nephilim King, and that’s no easy task.
And finally, exposing a sheltered Princess to the vagaries of Earth’s entertainment might have been a bad idea.
So far we’ve bought ice cream twice, cream puffs, and twenty seven flat screen televisions with separate hard drives each containing 400 terabytes of videos pirated from a now defunct streaming service. We’re on the hunt for a collection of battery backup devices that the residents of the Divine Realm can inscribe with energy storage runes to make up for the lack of electrical grid in the Divine Plane. Hopefully the atmosphere doesn’t wreck the electronics.
Everything from kids cartoons through horror films is stored on those drives, enough to last most people for years. Maybe not Princess Amanda though, the twins got her thoroughly addicted last night while we were working on the volunteers cultivation.
I will also say, I never noticed while I was living here, but Earth has a distinct odor unique to it as a planet. Unlike everyone from the Divine Plane was fearing, it doesn’t smell like manure and sweat, instead the entire city has a notable overtone reminiscent of wheat chaff and diesel exhaust. I don’t know how I never noticed that before with Lycan senses, but Beta John assures me that most of the planet will smell like that and it’s not just a local thing. Growing up on the planet it’s a background scent you’ll never notice, like they don’t notice the sweet flowery scent of their home Plane until they’ve been away a while.
Ihave been informed that the volunteers will be staying here with us. John picked them because they were compatible and not treated very well at home, so leaving them behind is a favor of sorts. They do expect to see them again in the future once they reach Immortal Realm Cultivation, so they can update their notes. So far, we know the experiment worked, but we don’t know anything of the Long term effects.
They seem a little lost when we check up on them, following the bunny Golems around as they do random tasks, like they’re learning the routine. The Golems don’t speak, so the girls look like lost puppies.
"Would you like me to assign you a task or job? All the cooking and cleaning on the floor is done through magical spells and inscriptions, so there really isn’t much of an Omega’s usual duties left." I ask when I see them for the third time that day, just following a Golem around as it makes deliveries.
"Anything you need High Priestess." They answer immediately, well trained to serve others. But realistically, what can I have them do? They’re supposed to live with Karl so we can keep notes. That’s giving me a great idea.
