Chapter 18: Life in The Shadows
Agares certainly couldn’t break through directly into the city by attacking them, especially since he was a high-level fugitive in the Kingdom of Caer Vireth and the Great Empire. Doing so would be the same as foolishly handing himself over.
’I have to think of another way,’ Agares said to himself.
Just as he was waiting in line, Agares’ attention was diverted to the side when he saw a horse-drawn carriage carrying supplies for the border castle. An idea came to mind.
He separated himself from the line of people and stepped back, following the horse-drawn carriage. No one suspected Agares; the people there were too busy thinking about themselves.
As Agares remembered, Hurdor was the only city closest to the border castle. The city was also responsible for sending food and weapons to the castle, but Agares still did not know their delivery schedule.
His only task now was to wait for the horse-drawn carriage from the border castle to return to Hurdor. When it arrived, Agares would sabotage it and disguise himself as a supply delivery officer.
Agares waited for five hours in the bushes near the supply delivery route, his eyes focused on the road. His attention was diverted when he saw a horse-drawn carriage passing by without any cargo.
Agares smiled slightly. He quickly stepped out of the bushes and stood in the middle of the road. This startled the horse-drawn carriage driver, who pulled the reins, bringing the carriage to a halt.
"Who are you? Get out of the way!" ordered the driver.
The man remained silent. He drew his sword and threw it forcefully forward, striking the driver right in the neck. Without any fighting skills, the driver failed to dodge and the sword pierced his neck.
"Akkh!"
