Chapter 58: Miranda (1)
As soon as Jack entered his room, he realized he had a problem. He didn't know where Miranda lived and had no easy way of finding her in a snapshot.
Hoping that Jeeves could help, Jack summoned him. He had stopped thinking about it as activating and deactivating Jeeves, and begun thinking about it as summoning and dismissing.
"Jeeves," he said, "you said earlier that you have the same level of access to Genesis Heart as I do, and the same permissions. So, if I wanted to find someone inside a snapshot, would you be able to help?"
A fire of urgent craving was storming through him and he really didn't want to spend hours searching for Miranda. He hoped Jeeves could speed up the process.
"Yes, sir, that is something I can assist you with. If you grant me access to your memories of the person you seek, it would greatly accelerate the process."
"Wait, you can read my mind?" He wasn't sure if the possibility bothered him or not.
"No, sir. Not normally. I can only do so if you wish it, and only to the degree that you allow."
Feeling relieved that Jeeves could not normally access his thoughts, he realized that the possibility had bothered him, at least a little. He created a new snapshot and summed the sphere to his room.
Then to Jeeves, he said, "Okay. I'm thinking of a person named Miranda Martel. You may access my memories of Miranda, but nothing else."
