Chapter 694: I want to have my bath
Would they come as eggs?
Would she suddenly wake up one day surrounded by tiny snakes and lose her mind on the spot?
Her system had once said that if it took longer than a couple months, then perhaps it would no longer be in egg form.
Perhaps.
But who could say for sure in a world like this?
The more Isabella thought about it, the stranger she felt. Looking at these lion cubs in their soft little beast forms made her heart ache in that quiet motherly way she was still learning. She suddenly found herself trying to imagine her own children. Would they be tiny? Would they curl around her fingers? Would they be warm or cool? Would Cyrus look at them and become even softer than he already was?
That thought made her smile to herself.
"I should ask him later," she thought. "Since he is the father, he should know something useful."
One of the women noticed the way Isabella’s hand rested over her stomach and said gently, "You must be thinking about your own little ones."
Isabella looked up.
Then she smiled. "Maybe."
The women around her all softened at once.
Because in a beast village, children always pulled at people’s hearts, and seeing Isabella look like that while touching her stomach made every woman there feel the same quiet warmth.
Still, the cold was getting sharper now, and one of the women finally said, "My lady, you should go inside before the snow becomes worse."
This time Isabella nodded.
As much as she wanted to keep looking at the cubs, her back really had started hurting, and the babies in her stomach felt heavy enough already.
So she let them help her up.
The cub who had liked her most gave one last tiny unhappy sound when she rose, and Isabella almost reached down to steal it and bring it inside with her.
Almost.
But the mothers had already taken them away, and soon the little beasts disappeared inside one by one, still stubborn, still squirming, and still much too cute for their own good.
By the time Isabella finally stepped back in, she could already smell cooking.
Naturally.
Cyrus had definitely started by now.
That man truly could not sit still if there was a female he cared about nearby and she might be hungry later.
The warm smell drifting through the air made Isabella feel even softer inside.
Somewhere farther away, Kian was still working because that lion really seemed determined to work himself into the ground one day. Zyran was probably still doing something foolish too, because peace never lasted long enough around him. But Isabella herself now needed a bath, and because she was tired and did not feel like hunting for people, she looked around and only saw Osiris nearby.
He looked bored.
Very bored.
So she called him over.
Osiris immediately turned and came toward her, and for some reason, there was already a smile on his face.
That made Isabella narrow her eyes.
Osiris stopped in front of her with that same smile still on his face, and the more Isabella looked at him, the more suspicious she became.
This was because when Osiris smiled like that, it usually meant one of two things. Either he was in a very good mood, or he had done something foolish and was waiting for people to discover it later.
So Isabella narrowed her eyes and asked again, "Why are you smiling?"
Osiris looked at her as if the answer was obvious. "Because you called me."
Hearing that, Isabella blinked.
Then she stared at him for a moment before asking, "That is all?"
Osiris nodded very naturally. "That is enough."
For one second, Isabella did not know what to say to that.
This mountain phoenix was truly becoming more and more dangerous.
The most annoying part was that he did not even seem to realize it. He simply said such things with that open and honest face of his, as if he had never heard of shame in his life.
So Isabella clicked her tongue softly and looked away. "You are acting strange too."
Osiris immediately looked wronged. "What do you mean too? Who else is acting strange?"
Isabella thought of Kian being clingy earlier and Zyran being shameless every day of his life, then decided that if she answered honestly, this conversation would become too long.
So she only said, "Never mind. I want to have my bath."
Osiris’s eyes brightened at once.
That reaction alone made Isabella immediately add, "Do not look so happy. I am asking for help, not inviting you to do nonsense."
Osiris frowned as if he had just been accused unfairly. "When do I ever do nonsense?"
Isabella looked at him with a face full of disbelief.
This man truly had no self-awareness.
Before she could even start listing examples, Osiris had already walked closer and looked down at her as if waiting for the next order.
To be honest, he really had been bored.
The whole evening had been full of other people doing this and that, while he had spent too much time being told to stay away from the fire, stay away from the kitchen, stay away from trouble, and in his opinion, that was a very unfair way to treat a phoenix.
So now that Isabella had called for him personally, his mood immediately improved.
That was why he smiled.
It really was that simple.
Isabella looked at him again, then sighed in her heart.
This foolish bird was too easy to read sometimes.
"Fine," she said. "Then come with me. I need the bath prepared, and I do not want to walk back and forth a hundred times."
Osiris nodded at once. "I’ll do it."
He answered so quickly that Isabella almost laughed.
He really was like a child sometimes. The moment she chose him for something, he looked brighter than before, as if the whole world had suddenly become bearable again.
