Chapter 55- Eventide
"Wh-what?" Eventide hearing his sudden words, felt confused, but as she lifted her eyes to meet his gaze, she saw his face—the same as she had seen in the press conference, with the same raven hair and a hair strand of grey, his deep black eyes glancing in her direction yet fixed beside her, prompting her to turn.
"...I should have believed you," Ytrisia muttered, clearly realizing that everything Cruxius had told her about being targeted by the Hero Association was true the moment his eyes met hers.
Ytrisia herself was aware of how unfair the Hero Association was and how the privileged few within the organization were treated.
Like any other human institution, it was corrupt to some extent.
But it was still necessary to maintain balance in the world.
Never had she thought that the Association would go so far as to try to assassinate someone of Cruxius’s caliber for such a trivial reason.
Normally, killing an average human, committing crimes in secret without attracting media attention—these things happened on a small scale all the time, as superheroes were also human, after all.
However, there was a limit to how far they could pursue someone, especially someone like Cruxius, who was presently in the media spotlight and influenced by his family.
A clear stupid decision and reckless action.
It seemed as though they didn’t care about anyone except themselves, and this attack on Cruxius revealed that they saw themselves as absolute authorities.
They did not care about media judgment, people’s sentiments, or the laws taking action against them, simply because the government had been forgiving and was using taxpayers’ money to deal with the collateral damage.
