There was a flicker of hesitation.
Standing still, hands casually tucked into his pockets, Cruxius stared at the blue screen hovering in front of him. Its glow clashed subtly with the room's yellowish hue, casting an ethereal light as he tried to make sense of this sudden phenomenon.
'Did she spike my drink? Some kind of hallucinogen? Or is this part of a hero's halo—an illusion?'
A storm of doubts surged through his mind. His eyes flicked toward Lira's lifeless body before darting to the window. Outside, the wind carried the usual chill of night, and the moon hung undisturbed—calm and very real.
His narrowed gaze swept over the vast ocean beyond, a silent reminder that this mansion sat atop a private island—far from civilization, far from any prying eyes.
