Chapter 784: Using People as Mirrors
In the courtyard, Shen Jun was gradually irritated, hearing the cheerful conversation of Suizi’s family.
Liu Yanan came over to pester him.
"You need to leave. If my father-in-law wakes up and can’t find anyone, he will be upset."
Her father-in-law had a bad temper; when he fell ill, it was even harder to care for him. The couple took turns working shifts to hang on.
Liu Yanan had been taking care of him all day; it was now Shen Jun’s turn. However, after having dinner at the old Yu Family’s house, Shen Jun made excuses to stay, complaining of gastric discomfort, and refusing to move.
Now, Shen Jun was in the courtyard again, with his face distorted, leaving Liu Yanan bewildered.
Shen Jun murmured to Liu Yanan: "Our old classmate is unkind. Listen, they’re all happy as a clam, not considering us at all."
"Didn’t they invite us to dinner? And wouldn’t it be strange if we intruded on their family conversation?"
Liu Yanan didn’t think there was anything wrong with Suizi’s family; on the contrary, she always felt guilty.
They were living in their house, not giving Suizi rent for it. These last few meals, Wang Cuihua has been warmly inviting them. Even the congee for her father-in-law was prepared by Wang Cuihua and delivered by Liu Yanan to the hospital.
"Should we buy gifts for Suizi’s children before we leave? Since we’ve been living and eating at their place for free, I guess she wouldn’t accept money from us."
