"Don’t be afraid. The old master wants to meet you. The two young men who brought you here are the second and third sons of your fourth aunt, Fan Huang and Fan Hu. I instructed them to handle you with care. These boys are reckless. They didn’t scare you, did they?"
Both Fan Huang and Fan Hu scowled. The more they witnessed the second mistress’s cunning, the more they believed what Suizi had told them.
It’s not wise to put all your eggs in one basket. Putting all the treasure on one side is unstable. It was the second mistress’s idea to kidnap children from Suizi’s family, even considering kidnapping her sister-in-law if they failed to get the younger children.
Now, with the hostages brought back, the second mistress conveniently absolved herself of all involvement, shoving the blame onto them.
