The murderous intent from the council slowly faded as the climatic atmosphere eased down with a sudden wave of confusion.
The chairman laughed once more.
To think a day would come when he would meet someone who could bargain with him.
Ever since he rose to his position, it has always been, ’Yes sir’ with no arguments whatsoever, so getting someone to bargain with him was a bit refreshing.
And even more when it was a young girl that was young enough to be his daughter or granddaughter even.
"Chairman, we cannot stand this arrogance." The man standing behind the chairman, presumably his assistant, declared. "How dare she speak to you in such a manner?"
They started murmuring violently. They could not stand for this disrespect either.
Some were quiet while this was going on.
Devon was silent, staring at Alice and wondering what she was planning.
The same as the tanned bulky man who kept his hand folded and minded his business.
While this was going on, Alice’s gaze was fixed on the chairman, not wavering one bit. It was interesting and he wanted to know what this young one wanted in exchange for an answer.
