Chapter 92: Aftermath
For only God knows how long, I sat in silence and stared at the television hung on the wall with dull eyes. While it wasn’t current news, it gave me insight into everything that had happened while I was unconscious—especially since the system refused to respond to my questions anymore.
According to the news, it had been six months since the war on Louisiana kicked off, and what was expected to be a month-long operation stretched out to five months. The American troops met unexpected resistance but eventually won. Since there was no talk about a human leading the orcs, I suspected Lee Bai escaped—but that shouldn’t be difficult, since he could cross between realms like me.
I even suspected his base talent was also the [Door] talent I was given. While there was no evidence to back up this claim, the fact we both possess the [Gatekeeper] talent made me believe our skill sets were the same. The only difference should be the abilities accumulated along the way.
Not only did the war drag on much longer, but the casualties from all American soldiers involved in the invasion exceeded 500—recording the biggest loss the country has sustained in over a decade. To my surprise, the Limitless casualties were recorded to be ten.
Ten Limitless from neighboring states lost their lives in the invasion—and Deacon was one of them. His funeral, along with that of hundreds of Texas soldiers, was held a week ago. It was said he only succumbed to the Omen Pulse a month ago, and his family graciously donated his corpse for scientific research to find the cause and nature of the attack.
That was the only way they could get to the root of the problem and prevent another catastrophe.
The outcome of the war was slightly satisfying since it meant I wasn’t the only loser in this conflict. I lost the Nightfall Dominion territory, and he lost Louisiana. Plus, the fact that my territory was a dying planet while his was a prime territory...
It was safe to say he lost more than me, and that was enough to make my heart ache less.
However, all the losses didn’t mean I came out empty-handed. The victims of the war were referred to as heroes of America—and that applied to me as well. The system had given me 5,000 experience points for the nationwide recognition, and the American government also awarded me 5,000 contribution points to honor my efforts.
The military had leaked some of my achievements in the war, and when I checked my phone, I realized my fight with the Orc Berserker was currently one of the most-watched videos in the country—with over 30 million views and 20 million likes. My profile on the official Limitless site was now one of the most followed, only behind the top Guardians.
Many people truly believed I was the strongest Limitless of my generation—and wished to be a part of my journey to greatness.
