Chapter 135: The Incident on the Luxury Airship (3)
It felt as though I was standing at the edge of a precarious cliff. My back was drenched in cold sweat, my tongue felt parched, and my heart was pounding so loudly I could hear it in my ears.
I wondered if this was what it felt like to be a criminal caught in the act, facing a police officer who was about to lock me away. The fear that my life might be about to end made it hard to breathe.
At least, the one consolation was that I had a reason to keep my mouth shut in response to the question. It was a blessing that I couldn't speak. Surely, my voice would have been unbearable to hear.
‘...That’s not very comforting!’
Of course, staying silent like this didn’t help solve the problem. It only stopped things from getting worse.
The moment Tempest pointed out that I was a psychic, the situation became as bad as it could possibly get.
Damn it. When he asked about the Nexus Project, I should have reacted as if I didn’t know what he was talking about. But now that I had responded as if I knew exactly what it was, there was no way out.
It wasn’t entirely my fault, though. Tempest being able to recognize psychics wasn’t something mentioned in the original story. It was understandable that I would let my guard down right after such a suffocating interview.
‘What should I do? What in the world am I supposed to do?’
I hadn’t planned for something like this to happen. I had never imagined being caught for being a psychic without even using telekinesis.
What happens next? Will I be captured by the association and turned into an experimental subject? Or will I be treated as an enemy and eliminated on the spot? Either way, it was the worst outcome. Raven or Greg could get dragged into this mess too.
‘That’s... not something I want. I don’t want my friends to suffer because of me...’
