Chapter 342 - 50 - Investigating Hidden Shrine
A shrine that build on an underground cave has caught the attention of all of us, especially Alyssa, who can’t believe that her magic circle formation chant does not detect some new magical plants.
"This is really beyond my expectations," I muttered after seeing the shrine building overgrown with new, undetected magical plants.
Alyssa and Alice looked busy with their eyes captivated by what Aiko was seeing.
"Lily-nee... are you seeing this?!"
"Onee-sama, I want to go to this place in person immediately!"
Alyssa and Alice cried out, their hearts racing. Alyssa tried to remain calm as she carried out the task I had assigned her, while Alice wanted to go immediately to visit the mysterious temple in person.
"Alice, please restrain yourself from doing anything foolish after seeing this. I know you’re curious about the shrine Aiko is looking at, but please be aware that the entrance is located within an underground river. Do you have any way to do anything about that?" I asked Alice to calm her curiosity.
"Ugh, I can’t dive as deep as a slime," Alice grumbled, realizing that her potential wasn’t as resilient as Aiko’s.
"For now, let Aiko do her job. If Aiko is lucky, she will find another exit without going through the underground river. As far as I understand about the shrines that have been built in the past, they do have underground rivers as a source of water for bathing and drinking," I said in a calm tone to reduce the tension that was happening to my twin sister.
"I-I understand, Onee-sama." Alice sat back down quietly and continued to pay attention to what Aiko was looking at.
What Aiko saw would undoubtedly affect my twin sisters, who are obsessed with anything new and magical, the combination of that two is enough to make them go crazy chasing after it.
The shrine of something new that caught my attention had made my twin sisters curious, and they wanted to immediately go to that place, including Alyssa, who was holding herself back from being too excited, but the expression on her face seemed to say she wanted to go to that underground shrine.
Gripp...
Cttaass...
Alyssa’s fingers that were holding the pencil suddenly broke, as if holding back her curiosity from filling her body.
"Alyssa, you have to hold back your curiosity about this," I said to calm Alyssa down.
"I-I know about this, Lily-nee. But... this is an underground shrine filled with all kinds of new magical plants!" Alyssa shouted, her voice breathless from excitement.
"Yeah, I know, that’s why you were excited like this, right?"
"Y-Yes, Umm... sorry."
"It’s okay, there’s no harm in calling me to show your interest in something that catches your attention."
As best I could, I tried to reassure my twin sisters that they wouldn’t do anything dangerous. With the information still unclear, the only known way to the underground shrine was through a dark, fast-flowing underground river.
Even if someone could dive to the depths of the underground river, they would have to withstand the immense pressure of the rivers flows and the unknown oxygen supply. Even a single deep breath taken for a dive wouldn’t be enough for a person to hold their breath, especially my twin sister, who rarely practices holding their breath.
"This underground shrine really looks like an unexpected treasure trove. I was also surprised after seeing that there was a shrine built underground like that," I said while smiling at Alyssa and Alice.
"I can feel your curiosity... because I’m curious too."
"But, one thing is for sure, please don’t act rashly without thinking your actions through first."
I tried to prevent my twin sister from making the wrong decision.
If I don’t act like this, my twin sister will immediately go and cast a magic spell attack, right on top of the shrine, just to open the entrance from above ground.
I don’t want that sacred place to be destroyed, especially with Alice’s offensive magic attacks.
"For now, let’s entrust this to Aiko, the stealth slime who discovered the underground shrine."
The atmosphere became calm again and made me breathe a sigh of relief.
Alyssa and Alice calmed down again without being teased by curiosity.
Seeing my twin sister calm down, I quickly noticed what Aiko was looking at and realized there was a similarity to something I had seen before.
"Aiko, isn’t this..." I muttered into the Soul Tame communication channel.
[ Oh! The Supreme Commander is familiar with the layout of this shrine, too. ]
[ Isn’t this the same as a shrine established by a cult group that is preparing for the invasion of that unique monster... Golden King Bear? ]
"Umm... that’s what I thought, Aiko," I mumbled through the Soul Tame communication channel.
My feeling of curiosity has now turned into a deep sense of worry about this.
[ Should I investigate this abandoned shrine, Supreme Commander? ]
"Yes, I’ll leave that task to you, Aiko."
[ Umm... Yes!! ]
After receiving permission to investigate the underground shrine, Aiko quickly explored the area and discovered an entrance blocked by rubble. Surrounding the rubble were several arrowheads made of sharp twigs and stones. Aiko quickly retrieved the somewhat primitive arrows, and I cast analysis magic on them.
"Oh my..." I muttered softly after learning the important information that the primitive arrow had given me.
"Lily-nee, it seems like you found something interesting about this, huh?" asked Alyssa, curious about the information I managed to glean from the arrow Aiko found.
"Yes, Alyssa, without us realizing it. It seems we have entered the territory of the Elf forest, which often moves from place to place in the forest," I said in a calm tone without causing panic.
"Isn’t it a good thing that this military expedition is coming to an end?" Alyssa replied with a smile at me.
"It’s not that simple, Alyssa," I replied as I sat pensively on my chair.
I thought something bad about this.
The underground shrine discovered by Aiko has an architectural pattern similar to the shrine built by the heretical sect that resides in the cave where the King and Queen of the stealth slimes reside.
What I worried in this case is the simple architecture and the great pressure of magical energy, as if the shrine was a place that was sealing something inside, and a large-scale war was going on until it collapsed the underground cave that was the entrance.
I can only assume that after seeing the scars of the battle that had taken place.
Brraakk...
I immediately stood up from my chair.
"Lily-nee?"
"Onee-sama?"
Alyssa and Alice looked at me questioningly.
"Want to come visit the underground shrine?" I asked my twin sisters.
Bang...
Nod...
Braaakk...
Nod...
"I’ll come along, Lily-nee! Ah! Please cover for me for a while," Alyssa replied, handing over her duties to her military aide.
"Of course I’m coming, Onee-sama!" Alice replied, impatient to do something after sitting for quite some time.
My twin sisters were feeling bored with their work or felt bored without anything to do, making them both want to go into the underground shrine that Aiko found.
Nod...
I smiled and nodded my head to my twin sisters as I walked towards the exit.
Before I left the central command tent, I also gave a short message to the military officers who were in the central command tent.
"Please continue with your current duties, if necessary... report this to Marchioness Amagi as classified information labeled A2," I said before leaving the central command tent.
Srrusshh...
As I emerged from the central command tent, I saw Ellen and Momo playing with a pair of tamed wild monsters.
"Momo..."
With my gentle call, Momo immediately approached me.
"Is there anything I can help you with, my Monarch?" Momo asked, tilting her head.
"Yes, there are a few things I want to do with your teleportation slash."
"Ah, is that so..."
Blast!!
Without questioning the details, Momo immediately transformed her body into a cursed Odachi that was enveloped in heavy, suffocating magical energy.
"Please use my body well, my Monarch," said Momo as she positioned herself ready to be used to perform a teleportation slash.
Thudd...
Then, I stuck the tip of my magic staff on the ground to replace my main weapon.
"Please take care of this magic staff that my birth mother gave me, Ellen," I said to Ellen while giving her orders.
"Unn, leave it to me, Monarch of Holy Destruction," Ellen replied after seeing me transform into the Monarch of Holy Destruction to perform a teleportation slash using the cursed Odachi.
Gripp...
My hand immediately grabbed the hilt of the cursed Odachi and positioned my body to perform a teleportation slash.
Slassshh!!
Bllaaarr!!
Pulling the handle of the cursed Odachi and detecting Aiko’s presence still within my reach, I executed a slash that separated two different places into one.
Just from a clean slash that hit the sharp edge of the cursed Odachi, it could create a teleportation slash that was ready to be used at any time.
Srriinngg...
Ctaakk...
After making a teleportation slash that opened before my eyes, I immediately glanced at my twin sister and Mio, who were peeking out from the exit of the central command tent.
I don’t want to force Mio to come with me.
She was even too afraid to come out of the central command tent, which was blocked by my magic staff, which was stuck not far from the exit of the central command tent.
"Please look after this place well, Mio."
"I went to do a special investigation with my twin sister."
I said goodbye to Mio before stepping into the teleportation slash before my eyes.
Tap...
Tap...
"It didn’t take long."
I immediately moved from a place that was outside and filled with sunlight to a dark place and only got light from the magical plants that glowed in the darkness.
"Welcome, my Supreme Commander!" Aiko greeted with a pleased expression on her face.
"Oh, this place isn’t too bad to look at in person," I said, waving at Aiko to return her greeting.
My eyes were filled with various new magical plants that had strange magical patterns, directed at the shrine.
From quite a distance, I could feel the residue of magical energy being sucked into the shrine, like something was deliberately taking the magical energy produced by the new magical plants so that it wouldn’t be detected by Alyssa’s magic circle formation.
