He patted her head with a grin. "I guess so. I’ll wait for you to eat a poisoned apple your body can’t resist. After, let’s say, six years of coma? I’ll appear wearing shining armor on a white stallion, bend over the flowery coffin you lie in and give you a magic kiss full of love and longing."

She pulled back, rolling her eyes. "Way to break the mood. What magic kiss? And where do you want to find poison potent enough to force me into a six-year coma?" She punched her palm with a snort. "I’ll eradicate any trace of it in six hours!"

They gazed at each other, their eyes sparkling before erupting into light chuckles.

"That’s true. Should I call you fairy or immortal beauty?" He winked, changing the subject. "Anyway, how is your town’s project progressing?"

"Don’t talk about this headache." She pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. "I’m trying to revive the tech from my childhood memories. But they’re still just that—things I marvelled at in my youth without understanding how they worked."

He nodded, remembering how he saw her frown over diagrams or plans for two years. Despite her decent progress, the repeated failures slowly built into frustration. He didn’t want to see her like that.
