Chapter 611: For Better or Worse
A deep frown creased Xie Lian’s brow as she followed behind Adam. Though they had to kill the two women, the method bothered her.
He had not taken a second to hear their last words, although they were at his mercy. Her lips twisted when he retrieved their spatial ring without batting an eye. Was this how cultivators raised by a righteous sect should act?
She couldn’t help but ponder the question before she shook her head. These were the despicable methods of demonic cultivators and mages, not the ones she had learned her entire life. Yet, she knew Adam had a good heart and sold his quality pills cheaply to protect the disciples’ health.
Curious about the discrepancy, she coughed to catch Adam’s attention and asked.
"I get you’re not a hero, but why didn’t you give them a chance to speak?"
Adam frowned. "Would that have changed the outcome?"
Xie Lian shook her head. "They had to die or they would have brought reinforcement."
"Would they have felt better if I told them how brave they were? If I had sold them false hope by smiling and acting like a friend? I don’t understand why you try to sugarcoat killing. In fact, I find your methods more cruel than mine."
His eyes narrowed, and his voice darkened. "I gave them a swift and painless death before they could despair and left their corpses intact for her sect to bury. That’s my way of being merciful."
Xie Lian paused, internalising his word with a raised brow. They sounded wise yet felt wrong simultaneously because they left no place for compassion, redemption, or acceptance. But was it bad?
"I don’t know. They attacked us during an official competition, not as criminals. I feel they deserved a minute to speak."
