Great Xuan Dynasty, the 20th year of Emperor Xuanjing's reign, Linjiang Prefecture, Baihua County, Lianhua Town, Dapu East Village.
The scorching sun baked the earth like a fierce fire; although it made people uncomfortable, they preferred such days. The grains were already harvested and needed the sun's warmth to dry properly for storage. If it were rainy, that would be a real hassle.
Fortunately, after five or six days of hard work, most of it was done, leaving only some finishing tasks. The wheat had been stored in the barns, and soon it would be time to plow the fields again to plant corn and soybeans, followed by a brief lull in farm work.
The cleanup work simply meant gathering wheat straws from the fields for firewood.
A handsome youth in blue clothes walked out from the fields carrying a large bundle of wheat straw on his back.
Passersby greeted him with smiles. After all, there were not many scholars in the village. Two were set to leave for studies this year; one was the eldest grandson of the Yang Family, who never showed his face and was said to be studying diligently in town. The other was Guan Qingshu, who surprisingly came back to do farm work, a fact that amazed everyone.
Guan Qingshu just smiled and nodded without saying much.
"Brother Qingshu, let me help you," a girl's voice said, as she ran over quickly.
"No need," Guan Qingshu said, his face inadvertently frowning as he looked at the person approaching.
