Chapter 353: Yacht
The next day, taking advantage of the overcast skies, Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng left the base again. They drove to a distant location and then switched to a helicopter, making their way back to Binhai.
Familiar with the route, their journey was smoother this time, and they went straight to the seaside.
There were more people on the beach than before, but fortunately, they landed farther away since many were harvesting from the sea or fishing.
Living by the sea for sustenance was something those who grew up in coastal cities understood well. Relying on seafood to fill their stomachs wasn’t hard—it could provide necessary nutrition and minerals. They were just unaware of the animal mutations.
Or perhaps they knew but had no choice. Aside from the bases or major organizations, the rest practically had no stored food left. Edible items were becoming scarcer, so whatever they could find, they ate. Such was the new normal.
Gu Pan and Lu Ruisheng didn’t approach these people since they weren’t sure how eating mutated animals would affect them, and they didn’t have the time to intervene. They rode their motorbikes as quickly as possible in search of the yacht club, which, being adjacent to the coastal park, wasn’t difficult to find.
Most yachts here were corroded by acid rain, but some were indoors as part of an exhibition and thus untouched, useless to others.
Gu Pan picked out a few good ones and took them. Afterwards, they swiftly departed. They considered gathering some salt, but remembering the pollution of seawater, they abandoned that plan. They searched nearby salt fields for uncontaminated, semi-finished salt as most finished products had been taken.
However, after checking several places, they found none. Although slightly disappointed, they had been prepared for this possibility and didn’t let it dampen their spirits. Of course, they didn’t come out for nothing. They collected whatever they could—cars, motorcycles, even some windows and doors. Anything was valuable for the future construction at Mount Everest. They planned to propose to Lu Jianguo, when the time was nearly right, to head to Everest first. This team could make a significant contribution to the construction efforts there.
Having gathered enough, they didn’t waste time and flew straight back. It wasn’t worth taking risks outdoors with the changeful weather; safety was the priority.
Their trip was quick but not without cost, yet the several yachts they managed to obtain were worth it.
