"We need to find him," Kylo interrupted Isleen, his voice firm despite the tremor running through it. "We’ll split up. Isleen and I will check the burnt houses in case he wandered over there. Perhaps, he forgot something over at the apartment and has gone to retrieve it. Anyway, Fergus, you and Lupe stay here in case he comes back."
"That sounds like a good plan," Lupe said with a strained but resolute voice. "We’ll wait here and wish you both luck."
Isleen, still sniffling, nodded in agreement. She threw Fergus a pleading look before clinging to Kylo’s arm as they hurried out the door.
"Go safely," Fergus mumbled, wishing them luck too.
Luck, huh?
He wished them luck in finding a ghost. Hahaha! How amusing was that? This was what was akin to torture for him, holding back his laughter when he in fact wanted to burst out laughing at the top of his voice.
Truth be told, the son Isleen was crying for was him. He was the one who had been with her. He was the one who had served her pleasure every night and killed those who oppressed her and watched over her.
