Chapter 47: _ Liar
He was a bad father; Rhett thought. Yes, he was. Except for flickering his gaze to Kylo here and there, his eyes were transfixed on Isleen.
He, however, couldn’t let them see him. He hadn’t seen the beauty in Isleen’s eyes and he was already this hard. Heaven knows what he’d do should she stare at him with those eyes of hers.
Rhett knew he was acting erratically. He should be focusing on the investigation, not watching his mate walk away with his son and some boy. He should get back to the precinct and find Cora.
He berated himself internally. He was a Gamma, a leader, and he couldn’t afford to be distracted by personal desires. The pack, the investigation, his son - these were his priorities.
Maybe he was telling himself a lie. Isleen - the moment his wolf recognized her as his mate, she had become his priority too.
It wasn’t until they were out of sight that he allowed himself to also go to his destination. When he arrived at the precinct, Farkas was the first to approach him.
"Rhett, the sketch is done."
Now, that was the first good news he’d heard since this shirt started. "Let me see." He extended his hand and Farkas placed the paper in it.
What he saw almost made him turn on his heels and go bang on Isleen’s door but he had to be rational. He needed to be in control of his actions and not let emotions drive him.
"I’ve checked the stats. It’s a boy named Liam. He had a brother who he lived with, but unfortunately, he lost his brother to the last attack." Farkas, oblivious to Rhett’s inner turmoil continued to provide the information.
Rhett’s grip on the paper tightened. What was that boy doing with a fairy at night? At night his brother died.
