Simon grumbled under his breath as he soared through the sky, carrying Oceanus on his back in his eagle form. "That ruthless dragon... always so possessive," he muttered through his beak, frustration bubbling with every flap of his wings.
Oceanus, comfortably perched on Simon’s back, stroked the feathers on his neck absentmindedly. "What are you muttering about, Sim?" he asked, his voice calm but laced with mild curiosity.
Simon clicked his beak irritably. "Do you know, when I asked that dragon about female preferences, he threatened me! Goodness, the nerve of him! Once the female gets better, I’ll challenge him to a duel," he said, his tone filled with indignation.
Oceanus’s expression shifted, his eyes turning icy and unreadable. "Good," he said, his voice colder than usual.
Simon perked up, thinking Oceanus was finally on his side. "You think so too, right? It’s about time someone put him in his place—"
But Oceanus cut him off sharply. "Damon did a great thing," he said, his tone carrying an edge that made Simon falter.
Simon nearly missed a wingbeat. "What?" he squawked, bewildered, not expecting that response.
Oceanus leaned forward, his gaze piercing through the wind. "He’s protecting his mate, and he’s right to warn off anyone who steps too close. If you truly want to challenge him, you’d better think twice— From what I see Damon doesn’t just give threats, Simon. He follows through."
