My mates in Beastworld

Chapter 291 Determination

His hand fell, and the last breath left his body.

Kyra froze, her breath catching in her throat. She stared at him in disbelief, the realization sinking in like a knife to her heart. He was gone. The sweet, brave boy who had risked everything for her was gone, and there was nothing she could do to bring him back.

A sob tore from her chest as she cradled his lifeless body in her arms. The world around her felt like it was closing in, the weight of her failure crushing her.

The monsters roared furiously behind the gate, their claws scraping against the metal with a grating sound. But each time they tried to push it open, her thunder barrier sent jolts of electricity through them, causing them to recoil. Still, Kyra knew the gate wouldn’t hold much longer. The barrier flickered weakly, and the creatures grew more desperate. Time was running out.

But Kyra didn’t care anymore. She had failed. She had lost him.

Her tears mixed with the blood on her hands as she whispered, "I’m so sorry, Joy... I’m so sorry."

The gate creaked under the weight of the monsters, and Kyra knew they would break through any second. She gently laid Joy’s body down on side, her hands shaking as she closed his eyes. Her chest was tight with grief, but she forced herself to stand.

She couldn’t let his sacrifice be in vain.

With one last glance at Joy, Kyra wiped her tears and turned to face the gate. The monsters were coming, and now, all she had left was her rage. Rage at the monsters, at Benjamin, at the entire cruel world that had taken so much from her.
