Chapter 289 I won’t let you break me
She took a step back, her voice trembling but defiant. "You’re not touching me," she said coldly, glaring at the monster, her disgust clear in her eyes. I won’t let you break me, she thought, her heartbeat drumming in her ears.
Benjamin’s cold eyes flicked toward her, and for a moment, there was a flicker of something. Amusement? He chuckled softly, "You’re a fighter, I’ll give you that."
He turned to the horned monster, and after a pause, he said, "Not today." His tone was indifferent, almost bored, as if he couldn’t be bothered to let things escalate. "She’s still useful for now."
Kyra exhaled shakily, her relief short-lived as she realized she was still at their mercy. Benjamin motioned for her to follow again, and despite her disgust she followed him.
After following Benjamin inside, Kyra’s eyes scanned the small, cramped cave. The room was shockingly simple—bare, with nothing but a thin mat on the ground and tiny windows that barely let in light. Her expression shifted from shock to dread as she took in the miserable space.
"This is where you’ll stay from now," Benjamin said, a smirk playing on his lips. He didn’t wait for her reaction; he simply turned and left, disappearing from the entrance of the cave that didn’t even have a proper cover.
Kyra stood frozen in place. No, no, no... Her mind screamed. She couldn’t stay here. Not in this desolate, cold place. Not in these conditions, not with the monsters outside. Her heart pounded in her chest, panic starting to rise. She needed to find a way out, for herself, and for her baby.
Kyra took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing thoughts, and sat down on the thin mat. The weight of everything began to settle in—her situation, her baby, the danger looming over her. She was just beginning to gather her thoughts when she heard a soft voice.
"Female," the voice called out urgently.
