Chapter 266 Damon secrets (2)
Millions of years ago, a massive volcano, near the southern border of the valoria country, erupted with a fury that sent shockwaves through the land, causing a cataclysmic earthquake.
The ground split apart, and the largest peak of the surrounding mountains crumbled, taking countless lives with it. The disaster didn’t stop there—shortly after, the Sapphire Sea, the largest body of water where seven great rivers converged, was struck by a massive tsunami.
One disaster after another followed in a terrible chain that lasted for an entire decade across the whole world.
their human forms retained remnants of their beast-like features. Beast ears, tails, and, for the bird-like beastmen, wings. But after those disasters, the evolution took a strange turn. The abilities and features that had once defined them faded away, as if the disasters had drained the magic from the land. Beastmen could still transform, but in their human forms, their unique traits were lost to time.
"I thought that ability was lost," Lucas whispered, still stunned. "But you... you still have wings."
Damon clenched his fists. He had no words to explain it. His wings were both a gift and a curse, he’d always kept them hidden, knowing they set him apart from even his own kind.
Damon looked at Kyra and Lucas, his expression softening as he saw Kyra move closer to sit next to him. She gently placed her hand on his thigh, rubbing it softly, a gesture of quiet reassurance. Her touch helped him ground himself, and after a moment of silence, he decided to speak.
"You already trusted me enough to tell your truth..." Damon began, his voice low but steady. "So I’ll tell mine." His eyes flicked briefly to Kyra, her calm presence giving him the courage to continue.
"I was born different from the others... from the other dragons." He paused, "No one really knew why, but when I shifted into my human form for first time, I still had my wings. Because of that, my father wouldn’t let me out. He kept me hidden."
Damon’s gaze darkened as memories surfaced, heavy and painful. "During that time, there were... hunters. People searching for beastmen with wings. It was rare—so rare that it sparked several wars. And I never knew why. Why everyone wanted these wings so badly." He glanced down at his hands, clenching them in his lap. "So I hid them. Always."
Kyra’s touch remained steady on his thigh, her silent presence helping him through the difficult memories. Lucas watched him intently, the tension in the room thick as Damon continued his story.
