Chapter 292: Female Protagonist from the Women’s Channel
Before Wang Haoran could finish piecing together his thoughts, a sudden commotion rippled through the plaza—voices raised, equipment shifting, crew members rushing to position. The set was ready. Filming was about to begin.
Rising from the cushioned stool, Wang Haoran stepped away to avoid getting caught in the camera’s frame. The assistant director quickly dragged the stool to a spot with an excellent view of the shoot and invited him to sit once more.
Wang Haoran gave the surroundings a cursory scan. It didn’t take him long to spot Li Yunxi among the gathered extras, but before he could take a closer look, a stunning woman suddenly approached him.
She stopped a short distance away, eyes fixed on him with clear interest, and leaned in toward the assistant director to whisper curiously, “Who is that? He’s ridiculously handsome. Is he a new actor on the cast?”
The assistant director grinned. “New actor? No, that’s Young Master Wang, heir to Wang Entertainment.”
The woman’s eyes lit up with undisguised excitement. “Wang Entertainment’s heir?” she echoed, her tone syrupy sweet as she stepped a little closer and introduced herself in a deliberately flirtatious voice, “Young Master Wang, hello. I’m Yu Fei, a signed artist under Wang Entertainment, and also the female lead in this production.”
Wang Haoran spared her a glance. She was easily a nine out of ten in looks—perfectly suitable as the female lead—but her sycophantic tone gave her away. This one wasn’t heroine material.
He offered a faint smile. “Why are you here alone? Where’s the male lead?”
Yu Fei giggled delicately. “This scene doesn’t have the male lead. He’s still over there doing makeup, but he’ll be joining us shortly.”
Wang Haoran nodded without much concern. He was about to ask her something else when he suddenly felt a chill in the air—as if someone were glaring at him. Turning his head, he saw Li Yunxi standing about ten meters away, arms crossed, eyes narrowed in undisguised disdain. Then, under his bemused gaze, she began walking straight toward him.
“You’re Young Master Wang?” she asked with a sneer.
Wang Haoran frowned. “I am. Do you need something?”
Li Yunxi gave a snort. “Don’t pretend to be innocent. I know what kind of thoughts you have about me. Let me make it clear—give up. I can’t stand rich second-generation types like you. I will never like someone like you!”
Wang Haoran froze. What the hell? Is this woman insane?
Yu Fei gasped and quickly barked, “Li Yunxi, that’s enough! Mind your tone and apologize to Young Master Wang right now!”
The assistant director’s face darkened with fury. “Do you want to be blacklisted from the entire industry? How dare you speak to Young Master Wang like that!”
But Li Yunxi remained unfazed. Hands on her hips, she locked eyes with Wang Haoran without a hint of fear. “Young Master Wang, huh? I’m not afraid of you.”
Even someone as experienced as Wang Haoran couldn’t help being stunned by her boldness. Was this woman a walking catastrophe? Did she have no sense of self-preservation at all?
Just then, a new voice cut in. “What’s going on here?”
A tall, handsome man strode into view, his chest rising and falling with urgency. Around his neck hung a lanyard with a work badge: Director – Gu Nanfeng.
Hot on his heels came another man, sprinting over with visible anxiety. He placed himself on Li Yunxi’s other side, protective and tense. Wang Haoran recognized him instantly—he’d seen that face online.
Shen Yixing. One of the hottest male stars in the industry, good-looking, charismatic, every inch the male lead.
The two men flanked Li Yunxi like guardian deities. Gu Nanfeng on the left. Shen Yixing on the right. And as their eyes met, sparks flew in the air.
The silent clash between them was brief, but intense. For now, they had a common goal—protecting Li Yunxi.
Yu Fei and the assistant director stepped up behind Wang Haoran, ready to defend him.
Yu Fei pointed a trembling finger. “Li Yunxi, apologize to Young Master Wang right now. If you don’t, I’ll see to it that you don’t even get to play an extra!”
Shen Yixing stepped forward, voice unshakable and biting. “Yu Fei, you’re just a newbie. Don’t think you can throw your weight around just because you landed a lead role. Today, I’m standing by Yunxi’s side. Let’s see what you can do about it.”
The assistant director growled back, “Shen Yixing, don’t think too highly of yourself just because you got lucky with one hit show. You’re not untouchable. The industry is full of shooting stars like you—here today, gone tomorrow.”
Director Gu Nanfeng let out a cold chuckle. “If Shen Yixing’s words don’t scare you, how about mine? I’m the director. If you dare lay a finger on Yunxi, I’ll make sure you don’t even qualify to be an assistant director again.”
The assistant director’s expression twisted. Gritting his teeth, he brought out the ultimate trump card. “I may not have the qualifications… but do you know who’s standing next to me? This is Young Master Wang, heir to Wang Entertainment! The investor behind this entire production. So what if you’re the director? If Young Master Wang pulls the funding, let’s see how you plan to finish this drama.”
That struck a nerve. Both Gu Nanfeng and Shen Yixing froze, their expressions suddenly complicated.
After all, whether director or actor, no one could ignore the will of the investor.
Their earlier bravado evaporated the moment they understood who Wang Haoran truly was.
And yet—Li Yunxi was still standing tall, utterly unshaken.
She stepped forward, eyes locked onto Wang Haoran’s. Her voice was cold and steady, each word deliberate. “So what if you’re with the investment company? I’m not afraid of you. I’d rather die than apologize.”
Yu Fei looked like she was about to explode. “Unbelievable! Li Yunxi, you’re finished!”
The assistant director wasn’t far behind. “Pack your bags and head back to the countryside. Your acting career ends today.”
Both sides hurled accusations back and forth, each more heated than the last. Wang Haoran barely had the chance to interject at all. Finally, after several long moments, the yelling began to quiet down.
He opened his mouth to speak.
But another voice cut through the air, smug and theatrical.
“I’d really like to see who dares to touch my Yunxi today.”
Heads turned as a man in a flowing windbreaker strode into the scene, his entire presence exuding domineering flair.
Yu Fei and the assistant director exclaimed in unison, “Lu Beige!”
Wang Haoran raised an eyebrow. Great. Another one. This place is turning into a circus.
Li Yunxi stamped her foot. “Stop saying nonsense! I’m not yours!”
Lu Beige simply smiled, his gaze affectionate and indulgent. “That’s just a matter of time.” Then, as he turned toward the others, his face returned to its usual cold and arrogant expression.
Gu Nanfeng and Shen Yixing exchanged tense looks. Clearly, neither of them was pleased by this new arrival.
Wang Haoran watched the scene unfold with growing clarity. One glance at the gathering crowd of handsome men orbiting Li Yunxi, and he already understood what was happening here.
Just to be certain, he reached out to the system and pulled up her stats.

Wang Haoran let out a breath, gaze growing colder.
So that’s what she was.
A heroine straight out of the female demographic novels.
And an overpowered one at that.
