Rivers of the Night

Chapter 469: Tribulation (3)

Theron’s gaze sharpened. The Water Mana he prepared to catch the bolts hit the other side of the portal, dispersing and becoming erratic. Rather than trying to take control of them, they popped and burst, some appearing in random locations in such unpredictable patterns that it was difficult even for Theron’s senses to keep up with it all.

It took only a moment for Theron to understand what was happening. His breath was combined with his Mana—it allowed him to control it with greater precision and perfection. However, if all of the senses he concentrated into his Mana were suddenly ripped apart and dispersed through so much space, it would feel as though his Third Eye was trying to look at the world through a kaleidoscope.

The world fragmented in his eyes, and he felt his mind and thoughts spinning. He knew what was coming, but he couldn’t pinpoint it exactly. It was as though he had been spun in place countless times, and it was hard even to put a foot right in front of the other.

And then the bolts came.

Theron’s eyes became frighteningly cold, and he exhaled a frigid breath. The only thing he knew for certain was that Malaya was on his back.

In that case...

BOOM!

Theron felt a bolt as heavy as a stampeding tide slam against his chest. It ripped into his inner armor, short-circuiting its runes as though it was forcefully taking it all over and then writhing through his veins.

The pain woke his senses up, especially as he severed himself from the Water Mana he had just been controlling.

He coughed out a mouthful of blood, and it felt as though his entire body had been charred at once.
